    Diode difference please advise

A 1N5817 has a Vf of about 0.4v, whereas a 1N4001 drops about 0.7v. Depending on how the diode is used in your circuit, the 0.3v Vf difference might not matter, or it could prevent the circuit from functioning entirely. If you are using the diode as reverse polarity protection in a LM317...

Help - Blue and Red Laser

    1. Yes, you should be able to use the rkcstr driver with both blu-ray and red lasers if that is what you're asking. 2. You need about 8-9v into the rkcstr driver to power a blu-ray diode. So 3x Li-ion 10440s should be enough. I dont think you will be able get by with only 2x Li-ions. As for...

    My test load

Do you cut the component leads short before you solder? I hear that doing so can help achieve better looking joints.

    My test load

Thanks for sharing. This gives me a lot of good ideas for building my next test load. Nice soldering BTW, I can never get my joints to look that good. How do you do it?

Question about LPC-815 LOC forward voltage

Thanks for the info LarryDFW, that graph on Laser Enthusiast Forums was exactly what I was looking for. Additionally, I found a graph by Igort which also shows the Vf of a LOC versus current. Here are both graphs in case anyone else is interested. Edit: Deleted Graph. You can still find it...

Question about LPC-815 LOC forward voltage

Are you sure that it will only draw 3.6v, even when pulling 500ma? If its a bit higher, say the 3.8v I suggested, then the battery life would be very poor. The Li-ion could supply 3.8v while its fully charged, but the voltage would quickly drop with use.

I'd like to make my first DIY laser and I need some clerification.

I have never actually used an O-like blu-ray driver, and I honestly dont know all that much about it. But I would assume that you would wire the Vcc(+) to the positive terminal of the batteries, and the ground(-) spring on the driver would connect to the negative terminal of the batteries...

Question about LPC-815 LOC forward voltage

Thanks for the replies, My problem is that I'm trying to power a LOC with a Li-ion battery and a 0.3v dropout regulator. If the forward voltage of the diode is too high, I wont be able to use this driver. If the diode Vf is a conservative 2.7v as charliebruce suggested, the total voltage I...

I'd like to make my first DIY laser and I need some clerification.

Welcome to the forums Bluephics, At 9v, the rckstr driver would need at a minimum 6 AA batteries to run. In my opinion, this approach is a bit inefficient. 6 AAs take up a lot of space, and the driver will drop out of regulation as soon as the battery voltage starts sagging. You can stack...

Question about LPC-815 LOC forward voltage

Does anyone know if there is a graph of the LPC-815 LOC diode forward voltage versus current draw? In particular, I am interested in the precise voltage needed to drive the LOC diode at 420, 475, and 500 ma.

I've noticed that too, my time seems to be offset by 8 hours.

FS: 650-G-1 Glass Lens Modification! - Fit for AixiZ - 25% Increase for Red!

Jayrob, With your 650-G-1 lens, how does the beam diameter compare with an Aixiz acrylic lens (when both are focused to infinity)?

    650nm 300mw module, opinions?

I have not had any experience with this seller or this specific module. However, in the description the seller states that the module contains a "long die open can" laser diode and that it is "extracted from [a] new(never used) DVD Burner". Additionally, the seller states that "the ideal use...

Built my Violet Laser, but its not up to par...

You will need around 8.5 to 9 volts to power a PHR-803T though a rckstr driver. Otherwise, 99ma should be fine for popping balloons and smoking darkened paper towels (assuming the module is properly focused).

    Freak LPC-815 laser

Do you know what the current/voltage was across the diode? I'm surprised it didn't blow immediately, since at that power its over 400% the manufacturer specified output.

Problem with LOC, AMC7135 and 2xaaa

I think you are right about power dissipation. But a LM1117 will get you better battery life, since it can keep regulating at a full 1.5v below the LM317. If you are using 10440 batteries this would be particularly advantageous, since their small size means they dont have much capacity to...

Problem with LOC, AMC7135 and 2xaaa

Like Eudaimonium mentioned, 8.4v is too much for the AMC7135 to handle. Even if you used diodes to drop the input voltage to 6v, the AMC would still have dissipate a lot of heat. You might be able to get away with a LM1117 version of the DDL driver though, albeit at a lower efficiency compared...

Problem with LOC, AMC7135 and 2xaaa

I'm not sure how well that would work. A Li-ion battery only outputs 4.2v when it is fully charged, the voltage then slowly declines as it discharges. Check out this graph of 18650 discharge curves from CandlePowerForums. You can see that at 1A discharge the Li-ions hold their 4.2v for what...

Aging of Blu Ray Diodes - new test procedure

Thanks! I'm usually down in Austin, though I occasionally migrate to Houston. By the way, do you have the datasheet for the sharp 6x you mentioned above?
