    My first build from scratch

Aren't CR2's 3.6V, so 2x should give you 7.2V? You also mentioned in your first thread that the laser is dim because the batteries are drained, so maybe you just need to charge them:) Also you can try connecting the DMM in series with the test-load and setting it to read mA directly. Also...

50mW focusable 405 will it pop balloon

It will definitely pop balloons at 50mW. It will probably light matches. You can increase the likelihood of both by drawing with a black marker on the stop where you plan to put the laser. I drove a PHR diode at 45mA, which should be less than 50mW output, and after painting the red match...

Will this clamp work to press a diode?

I recently got one for ~$10 from the same seller. The quality is reflected in the price, but to me that was all the quality I needed! I have successfully extracted and soldered 3 laser diodes in the past week, using one clip and looking through the glass. The clips are STRONG and can hurt a...

Looking for general help in understanding regulator design

Killed another PHR:( I tried the mini-driver with a test-load and it gave 70mA, then tried it with the LD while still in the bread-board - same thing. The driver ended up being just a tad too big for the inside the aixiz after I put one layer of electrical tape... I even got the module to...

Looking for general help in understanding regulator design

I am not very clear on why I get what I get either... The regulator I used is the TO-92 little guy, and there is a circuit for current regulation in its datasheet, but it's diff - the input cap connects to ground directly. What I used was in the other datasheet, the one for the TO-220 guy, it...

My first build. By a beginner, for beginners.

Great job on the build and post! I really like the cleanliness of the final version and how neatly it arranged inside that project box:)

Looking for general help in understanding regulator design

I'd like to resurrect this thread because yesterday I managed to make my first linear driver, make my first laser, then kill my first laser:) I took what I had already: * battery: 9V * V-reg chip: LM78L05 * resistors: 2x 100Ohm 1/4W * capacitors: 1uF, 0.1uF * Aixiz: stock acrylic * LD...

    Nuclear radiation

10/10:wave: Some questions are tricky tho, but then some are not:) I love nuclear power, and I really wish more money/brains were being spent on improving the problem points. The hot thing now is alternative enery, not improving nuclear waste disposal... Here is an article about Thorium...

    FS: Laser Parts

You must have cleaned out your PM box to make room. I've even sent PayPal already, and before that we had 2 rounds of replies over PM:) Sending a PM now to remind you of my PP email.

Simple Laser Power Meter Using IR Thermometer

Made one with a 0.5" square of painted foil, and measured my 2 cheap pointers: 405 from ebay and 532 from swimminsurfer256. I get 33mW for Violet and 40mW Green, which seems consistent with what LPM-holding members have measured :) I noticed that after the initial 30s the temp reaches a...

LOC active cooled handheld 3 phases

How does the air get circulated by that fan? I can see the fan itself in other pics, but it's all the way inside the "pill". Are there holes around the fan through which it will move the air?

Compilation Of Information (First Major Build)

Re: WIP Complete Laser Creation Tutorial 540X have 0.7V drop around 0.7A current - less with less, and vice versa. Zoom in on Fig.2 in the attached PDF.

Compilation Of Information (First Major Build)

Re: WIP Complete Laser Creation Tutorial Depends on the model of the diode. There is a whole range of drop-out voltages among diodes, as low as 0.3V and up to 100V (maybe even 100s). As the diode gets hot from higher current the drop-out voltage slowly goes up.

New lathe = cheap things for you!

Stepping instead of round is perfectly fine by me, even sounds cool! I'd just be happy to get a custom heatsink. Even leaving the round 1" stock a cylinder would work too, that would make for some good heat absorption:) The tricky 'make-or-break' part is left of dotted vertical line - the end...

New lathe = cheap things for you!

This drawing is not to scale! :) All measurements are in mm, hope that's ok... The 12mm dashed lines through the center is bore for Aixiz, dash-dot line is just a center line, dot line vertically is where the aperture of my host is. Doable?

Compilation Of Information (First Major Build)

Re: WIP Complete Laser Creation Tutorial I know you found it already - just wanted to suggest a more convenient method of finding the specs on a part. This way you only do one search and you're done, guaranteed correct info:)

Compilation Of Information (First Major Build)

Re: WIP Complete Laser Creation Tutorial If you do a search for "1N4001 datasheet" and read any of the PDF's that come up you get all the info like max current. Looks like 1.0A rating on all in the 1N400X series.
