Re: WIP Complete Laser Creation Tutorial Depends on the model of the diode. There is a whole range of drop-out voltages among diodes, as low as 0.3V and up to 100V (maybe even 100s). As the diode gets hot from higher current the drop-out voltage slowly goes up.

Stepping instead of round is perfectly fine by me, even sounds cool! I'd just be happy to get a custom heatsink. Even leaving the round 1" stock a cylinder would work too, that would make for some good heat absorption:) The tricky 'make-or-break' part is left of dotted vertical line - the end...
