what is Laser energy lost during transmission??

When measuring the distance from the earth to the moon the beam is about 4 miles in diameter when it hits the moon which sounds huge until you realize you're trying to hit a target about 3 feet /1m square from ~240,000 miles/386,000km away. Out of every 10 million photons that make it to the...

    Remember to exercise those argons!

Hmm so both my Argons have been in storage for almost three months which I knew wouldn't be a problem for my larger ML head but I was a bit worried about my smaller 2212-10MLMA head. After being in storage it did not want to fire at all. Normally it'd fire after letting it warm for a minute or...

[CLOSED] Starting gas for a pretty good price

Re: Starting gas for a pretty good price [Now shipping] Yeah I got lucky for sure. The tube I was testing is actually from a kit I got from Sam and the small one in my avatar. It has square mounts that slip over the ends of the tube that have the power contacts in them. I should have just put...

[CLOSED] Starting gas for a pretty good price

Re: Starting gas for a pretty good price [Now shipping] After an hour of searching I finally found the correct info for my PSU and got my tube up and running and all I can say is wow a thing of beauty. It really does look like a miniature version of my bare 543.5 tube. FWIW these little PSUs...

[CLOSED] Starting gas for a pretty good price

Re: Starting gas for a pretty good price [Now shipping] Tube arrived a little bit ago. Tube looks flawless and reminds me of a miniature version of my bare 453.5 tube. Looks like I'll be firing up a few gas tubes tonight.

    Question about 593.5nm wavelength classification

My guess is it's because it's a lot closer to the true yellow spectrum than the orange at 612nm. While I don't have a 593.5 my 594.1 HeNe is definitely an amber color compare to the golden yellow of my 589.

[CLOSED] Starting gas for a pretty good price

Re: Starting gas for a pretty good price. [collecting payments] Nice! NOS is great news. Guess I should go poke around the gas forum for the input specs on that PSU of mine. Looks like I may have to get out my gas lasers this weekend and have some fun!

Second time around- 589 DL group buy feeler

Damn if I have the funds when this gets close to closing I may have to get another to go with my CNI 589. I have a feeling these are about to become as rare as hen's teeth. Have you tried Peregrine with your LPM? I use it so I can use my USB laserbee with my Macs. The latest version is...

[CLOSED] Starting gas for a pretty good price

Re: Starting gas for a pretty good price. [collecting payments] Two tips for handling tubes that haven't had time to bleed off: 1. Keep a good pair of gloves around. I have a cheap pair of winter gloves I picked up for a couple bucks at the hardware store that work nicely. Leather palmed work...

[CLOSED] Starting gas for a pretty good price

Re: [Renewed feeler]Starting gas for a pretty good price. Cool. Let me know when it's time to pay. I'm in Phoenix on vacation until the first part of next week but I'll try to check the forums a couple times through out day.

is it safe to bring blu-ray laser on airplane?

Ugh NEVER put anything of value into checked luggage EVER. Lithium batteries in a carry-ons aren't usually a problem. I just flew to Phoenix a couple days ago with two extra 18650s for my flashlight. They were however in a plastic case designed for them. Maybe the screener thought they were...

[CLOSED] Starting gas for a pretty good price

Re: [Renewed feeler]Starting gas for a pretty good price. I keep forgetting to ask but do you have any idea if these tubes work with those small "gold" HeNe PSUs that were all over flebay a year or so ago? I've run the small red tube in my avatar off it before so I think it would but there's...

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please I'm 99.9% sure it's 405nm. You can tell from the pics of the dot. Way too violet.

Argon Ion Laser - JDSU - running at full power

Yeah I got a "great deal" on my first one when I snagged one for 125 bucks off fleabay years ago. I forced myself not to order one from them when I got my second argon last fall and waited for Christmas since my mom and brother are usually prodding me for gift ideas every year. Works great and...

Awesome! Since it likely wouldn't get here before I leave next week I'm going to wait until I get back from vacation to order one.

Argon Ion Laser - JDSU - running at full power

It's fairly easy to make a DYI controller for them (Sam's has the pinouts) but if you're lazy like me or want one a real one that displays the current laser output power (also like me) you can get a real JDSU controller from MI-Lasers for 68 bucks. Meredith Instruments : JDS Uniphase Remote...

    Your favourite blue?

While 473nm is often considered to be "true blue" I still like 488nm the best. Honestly it could go either way. 2011-07-29_10-35-22pm by ltkernelpanic, on Flickr

New Show Software, "Get Laser Show" By Riya and Illumination Supply

I looked on their site after you posted the other day and couldn't find it. I can't order it until the end of the month anyways so if it doesn't go up for a bit that's cool.
