    Power Meter Calibration and Comparison

Looks like I'm next in line. I won't be able to do anything between the 26th and jan 3 because I'm out of town during that period.

Kryton GB round 3! MULTIPLE HOSTS!

What I mean is that if you use a linear driver to drive a 5.5V diode with 7.2V batteries at 100mA, then 1.7V will be absorbed by the driver. The batteries will be drained at a rate of 100mA. If you were to put a reverse polarity protection diode in series with the driver, the diode will absorb...

    Small PHR presentation pointer

I used the pointer for a few times now (maybe 4min total on time) and they still haven't drained. It's 12mW peak at the moment. Note, that it is not 'just' hooked to coin cells, I also use a small cap to prevent transients.

Kryton GB round 3! MULTIPLE HOSTS!

When not built right (right as in the rckstr adj driver), you're going to loose 0.7V (0.3V if shottky) of the battery power. With linear drivers this is not harmful for the efficiency, as they work on current, not voltage. For switched drivers, the efficiency will go down a lot, as they work...

GGW-H20L 6x Sled GB!!! THE EPIC GB THREAD LAWL!!!

Re: GGW-H20L 6x Sled GB!!! THE EPIC GB THREAD LAWL I succeeded in decoding the QR code by actually redrawing it on a grid. It turned out to have only 7% redundancy (lowest setting) so I could only have 7% of the pixels wrong. The code on the QR is usually the same as the code written below...

Kryton GB round 3! MULTIPLE HOSTS!

I think the question should be, would you rather damage the driver or the laser diode? A good reverse polarity protection protects both batteries and application, not just the application. Batteries could also leak if reverse polarized in another hypothetical (non-laser) application.

    DIY: Laser Power Gauge

I also once considered making a laser power meter on a similar principle (before i bought a knimrod DIY laser power meter). The principle, measure the absorption of the laser beam on one sensor by mimicking it on another. The sensors don't have to be linear, but exactly equal to each other. The...

Kryton GB round 3! MULTIPLE HOSTS!

One Li-Ion, or up to three NiMH (MXDL, Pocket pal) will generate a voltage lower than the Vf of PHR diodes and up (At least 5.5V, typically 5.8-6.0V) so my guess always was that a boost driver would be enough. I don't have enough experience to design a boost driver and I also hate inductors, so...

GGW-H20L 6x Sled GB!!! THE EPIC GB THREAD LAWL!!!

Re: GGW-H20L 6x Sled GB!!! THE EPIC GB THREAD LAWL That's just a twisted form of induction. Science is driven by deduction.

GGW-H20L 6x Sled GB!!! THE EPIC GB THREAD LAWL!!!

Re: GGW-H20L 6x Sled GB!!! THE EPIC GB THREAD LAWL I think all diodes except #10 #6* and #7 can be pushed at least twice as far, with just the reduced lifetime as a result. It's those ones with the high kink that die early and sudden. What if you multiply Vf with the current and plot that on...

GGW-H20L 6x Sled GB!!! THE EPIC GB THREAD LAWL!!!

Re: GGW-H20L 6x Sled GB!!! THE EPIC GB THREAD LAWL I never expected the 4x to bee so similar to PHR. Someone (I don't remember who) even said that you can't get to 150mW with every PHR but you can with every 4x, if you want them to live long. I wonder how true that turns out to be. In my PHR...

Kryton GB round 3! MULTIPLE HOSTS!

Like this? See here for3D renderings: http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1223085624#15 [hr] Kenom, I'll try to do a rendering of the round block, I've been having a bit of a busy schedule the past days. [hr] I'm also designing a driver at the moment, a linear driver with...

Kryton GB round 3! MULTIPLE HOSTS!

70-75mm long? The AA battery is 55mm long, the Aixiz lens threads and diode fitting are about 12mm, assuming the alu is 2mm thick, then there is only about 1-6mm left for the driver and switch? I wouldn't mind even if it was 100mm long, how about others? One of my own design concepts for...

Kryton GB round 3! MULTIPLE HOSTS!

I would rather go with a host slightly smaller than a kryton smooth than a beast or a tiny keychain. At least I want something handy with protected AA batteries. As it is you present us only with options on the extreme side. It's like going to the burger king and you can only choose between...

GGW-H20L 6x Sled GB!!! THE EPIC GB THREAD LAWL!!!

Re: GGW-H20L 6x Sled GB!!! THE EPIC GB THREAD LAWL What I'mn trying to say if that these '12x' diodes probably vary as much from other '12x' diodes as PHR diodes differ among themselves. There are PHRs with a very faint bend, but they are rare. It's possible that your '12x' diode is a rare...

GGW-H20L 6x Sled GB!!! THE EPIC GB THREAD LAWL!!!

Re: GGW-H20L 6x Sled GB!!! THE EPIC GB THREAD LAWL Remember how much the PHR vary, and that some have a bend that is barely visible, both in the graph and by visually observing the spot? I don't think these "12x" would be that different. Seeing as how low powered they are (even lower, according...

Wat does red mean in the spreadsheet? That it's a routinely calibrated meter or something?

GGW-H20L 6x Sled GB!!! THE EPIC GB THREAD LAWL!!!

Re: GGW-H20L 6x Sled GB!!! THE EPIC GB THREAD LAWL Can I see the raw data? I think I see a distinct bend near 70 mA.
