    Scanner opinions

Had a lot of problems initially. Also been working a lot of hrs, not much time to work on it. In the middle of a slight redisign to replace the dichro's I got from an lcd projector with some better ones on newport mounts. Scanners are still screwed up, but I had some other problems that were...

    Problem with FlexMod and GGW.

Nevermind, found the problem. I assumed that the FlexMod was a boost driver like the Flexdrive. Since I am driving it with a 5v psu, its maxed out. I'll need to find a small 12v psu to replace the 5v unit in my scanner.

    Problem with FlexMod and GGW.

I am having a problem with my FlexMod and GGW blu-ray. When I test my GGW with a bench power supply, I get 210mW @ 180ma @6.12V. I set the FlexMod current using the procedure in the manual. I set it at 180ma. When I connect the Diode to the FlexMod, I only get 68 mW with the mod voltage at...

*Pic Heavy* Woo Hoo! Got Some Lasers!

The little ones are slightly newer versions of the ones I was making at MG 23 yrs ago. When I left the serial #'s were only in the 75k range. 75k 1 watt resistors should work fine. 5.5ma for the small ones. Avoid attaching wires to the grooves on the end caps, tugging on a wire can slightly...

    HeNe Mod Hopping

Most of my higher power He-Ne's mode hop to some extent, mostly in the 00-11 range. The more precise the cavity length and optical alignment the less hopping. my 20mW red tends to float from 00-10-11-00. One of my old 0.2 mW greenies(R.I.P. after 22 yrs, now has a nice purple glow) did the same.

Can you still see the colors? xD

20 Might have done better with my glasses on though.

    Scanner Build, Help.

Unless you can visually trace the circuit path, you will need an osciloscope and a program that can output a signal to a single channel at a time. I tried to trace an old Audigy and gave up and bought a DX usb card. Probing a live card could fry the computer its connected to if you accidentally...

    12x BR DIODES

He means that being an open box isn't important, as long as the diode works, who cares about the rest of the drive.;) If money wasn't tight atm, I'd grab one right now.

Another broken laser - HeNe 612nm. Tube lights fine.. but

When I get the money for an Argon, I'm definitely getting it from someone I can pick up from close by.

What to feed a green hene tube?

Definitely not an MG tube(Unless they have greatly changed the design), the end with the blue wire should be the cathode. MG tubes generally use a 70k ballast.

is more visible a 450mw bluray beam or a 15/20mw true blue?

Keep in mind that optical response is not linear. 15mW of blue would appear 70x brighter than 15mW of violet. Actually I think blue is only about 10x brighter according to the graph.

Another broken laser - HeNe 612nm. Tube lights fine.. but

He could most likely get it lasing again, but any crack is going to allow air to enter the tube fairly soon. These tubes are at 1/190th atmosphere and any path for entry will slowly contaminate the mixture.

Another broken laser - HeNe 612nm. Tube lights fine.. but

Thnx. sry I can't do more. I can teach u to align optics, can't fix a cracked tube though.

Another broken laser - HeNe 612nm. Tube lights fine.. but

Sure it will, actually knocking them completely out would most likely kill the tube. If the collar was loose, that is the most likely mirror out of adjustment. I didn't see anything in your pictures that would indicate an impossible realignment.;) If you see comething in the bore like your...

Another broken laser - HeNe 612nm. Tube lights fine.. but

As long as the OD is ~2-4 they should work. You need enough filtering to blockout the majority of the plasma glow, but not too much. The process is actually pretty simple, but hard to describe. I aligned several hundred a day for 15 months when I worked at MG. Make sure you use an INSULATED...

Another broken laser - HeNe 612nm. Tube lights fine.. but

First, the locking ring is also how the optics are adjusted, the allen set screw go into a groove that, when the screw is turned in, will cause the optics to tilt slightly. Second, you will need some kind of filter, as you need to look down the bore while the laser is lit. We used small 1"...

Another broken laser - HeNe 612nm. Tube lights fine.. but

I can give you some information on aligning the mirrors when I get home. I've aligned thousands of those lasers.

2214-40ML: Flash from the bore, but thats it... Any hope?

Tungsten is a hard metal, but can be brittle. If the tube was handled too roughly in shipping, it could have easily snapped off.
