    593.5nm 20mW Portable

That's what I'm sayin' A heat pipe with a fan is way more efficient for a handheld than a TEC... cheeers, kernelpanic

    593.5nm 20mW Portable

TEC is great for a labby where you don't care about power usage. But I'm at a loss as to why wicked put one in a portable. I myself have been scavenging through old laptops looking for a heat pipe - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_pipe - that I can build into a host... I'm surprised I...

Could you see a laser  from the moon?

More food for thought- The lasers used for lunar ranging aren't that powerful. Only around 2.5 Watts! And the light is passing through the atmosphere twice. Plus the divergence goes to SH** once the beam hits the corner cube reflector. There's a very good chance that a class 3B laser (esp...

Lava Micro FlexDrive Driver (lavadrive2) fits pens

Re: Lava Micro FlexDrive Driver (lavadrive2) fits You have nothing to lose by trying. But as the driver is 12x12mm and reflow soldered, it won't be an easy fix, even if all the components are fine. Something to try- Connect a 1 ohm, 1 watt resistor in series with your 'test diode'. Measure...

Lava Micro FlexDrive Driver (lavadrive2) fits pens

Re: Lava Micro FlexDrive Driver (lavadrive2) fits depends... Lavadrives require a load be connected. If you powered it up loadless, you've likely killed it. Otherwise, you may still have a solder bridge somewhere. HTH, kernelpanic

    Aconsen Modul in MXDL

+1 for that build! bomb laser for sure. I really like the heatsink! cheers, kernelpanic

Could you see a laser  from the moon?

It would be possible to get a much better divergence if one used a telescope as a beam expander. The Laser lunar ranging project I linked to above achieves a beam that is only 7km (~4 miles) wide on the Moon's surface! cheers, kernelpanic

Could you see a laser  from the moon?

No past tense. The Apollo missions(11, 14, 15) placed corner cube reflectors on the Moon's surface. These mirrors are still in use. Observatories on Earth bounce lasers off of them to determine the Moon's distance.See this- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lunar_Laser_Ranging_Experiment. I've often...

    bestofferbuy.com 200mw bad review

Hello All, This is what happened to me with this company. (I posted about it here- http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1224308565.) Bait and switch seems to be the rule with them rather than the exception. The laser they sent me was- a) not what I ordered b) underspec c) ran...

    THATS IT I GIVE UP!!!!

One thing about when they go totally black- Sometimes you can BOMB them with current and bring em back for a few seconds... But only for a few seconds. Pretty way to watch a diode die though. ;) cheers, kernelpanic

Trimming LavaDrive to fit inside AixiZ Module

Bill, If you've got the old heatsink style, then- 1. Remove the Dorcy driver board altogether. It's in the body not the head. Just press it out from the battery hole. 2. Replace the plastic plug in the host backwards(nipple out) without modifying it. 3. desolder the LED bulb from the star...

    THATS IT I GIVE UP!!!!

maxkillz, We've all been there (or at least most of us). The PHRs are easy to overload and the open-can reds are easy to murder during extraction. I myself have killed- 2- short open-can reds by overdriving 2- long open-can reds extracting 1- long open-can red overdriving 2- PHR803Ts...

fire, +1 for you for sure. Although saying that you're 'really into LEDs' is somewhat of an understatement... ;D Happy Holidays Everybody! cheers, kernelpanic

Trimming LavaDrive to fit inside AixiZ Module

Bill, The newer darkhorse heatsinks can fit the lavadrive without the aixiz module. They have a slot in the back. To make the electrical connection to the battery, there's more than one way but I usually de-solder the components from the Dorcy driver board and solder leads to that. If you...

    IR laser deflourescenating?

Hello All, I also have noticed this with some glow-in-the-dark stars I've got. The effect is quite remarkable. (enough that I can 'negatively' write on them with my long open-can...) The red light instantly drains the material! cheers, kernelpanic

    My Handheld 3 Axis Scanner.

The hole in the weight generally goes all the way through. Use a shaft from one of the motors you killed and a small hammer to punch the eccentric off. That'll keep the shaft from bending. (BTW, if you do accidentally pull the shaft all of the way out of a pager motor, it is possible to just...

    Help! Diode Soldering

tw15t3r, I've done this myself. It is possible to clean the solder off. But it is also possible to fry your diode. Here's what I'd do- 1. leave the diode in the heatsink. This should give you an extra second or two to desolder. 2. Get some desoldering braid. 3. Use a hotter soldering iron. You...
