    Which is better?

Either way it won't be linear. But the 300 ohm pot would work better... To see why do the math for the halfway point of the pot's wiper for each scenario. ;) You'll see that you don't get 120 Ohms either way. (Not even close) cheers, kernelpanic

    About lasers and wounds.

It's not necessarily 'laser' treatment. LED's have been used also. Studies I've seen (that were on mice) suggest that while visible wavelengths in the red work ~800-900nm is the most effective range. As to blinding to perform such an experiment double-blind, they did it.(probably by using only...

    About lasers and wounds.

Don't be so fast to lump LLLT with magnet-quackery. There are a lot of double-blind studies that show acceleration of tissue healing from exposure to light. Most doctors agree that it's not ready for prime-time as the mechanism of acceleration is unknown. But the effect is there... cheers...

    This is really frustrating

Dude, she knows you want it. Mentioning it over and over is gonna start a fight. Let it go for now. If you must pursue this, wait until she wants a new laptop or something, tell her 'Too expensive, no.' then immediately buy it for her as a surprise. If she asks where you got the money for it...

    NICHIA DIODES

445nm?!?!?!? I want an indigo diode! cheers, kernelpanic

4 diodes better than 1. DIY Array on the cheap

Sharing Vout negates the use of multiple drivers. The circuit would act like one driver with a current output equal to the sum of the individual drivers. But at the ~100-150mA that the PHR diodes run at, you don't need a heatsink at all unless your supply voltage is much larger than the diode's...

    They have found him!

;D It's a colony of siphonophorae. They're kind of like jellyfish that stick together and function as one organism. (The only species you've probably heard of is the portugese man'o'war.) cheers, kernelpanic Does kind of remind one of wes though...

My laser makes a red lit dot in thin air...

As dar303 pointed out, there is no plasma. The effect is produced by optical trapping. Basically, the coherent light, when converging tight enough (i.e. when focused close) will hold small particles just past the focus point of the beam. With practice I've been able to keep the particles stuck...

    where to buy dorcy jr???

sh**. did'nt see your sig. If you're in eastern europe, Dorcy's site or stonetek are your best bets... cheers, kernelpanic

    UV Lasers

Hello All, Here's another good page with construction details. It also explains some of the math behind it and describes tuning/electrode spacing quite well. For anyone looking to build one of these, I recommend a flyback transformer over an NST for safety reasons. I've worked on both. A...

    About lasers and wounds.

I am fair skinned and am completely unable to burn myself with any of my 650nm lasers, focused or not. Having dark skin would definitely change the equation. Thanks for pointing that out.  :P BTW 'low-level' as used in that phrase is only used to differentiate from high powered lasers (CO2...

    where to buy dorcy jr???

Milan, Don't know where you are geographically. But in the states, Target is the cheapest place to find the Dorcy Jr. ($20) cheers, kernelpanic

My laser makes a red lit dot in thin air...

Yeah. No effect. I tried rare-earth magnets pulled from PHR sleds. At first it seemed like moving a magnetic fied killed the effect. But upon repetition, it's obvious that air currents were the culprit. BTW- I found that my 405nm @ 130mA works WAY better than 650 @ 420mA. The phenomenon is much...

    About lasers and wounds.

Not only will the red laser not burn you. Red lasers have been shown to actually speed healing. (Google- low level laser therapy.) It is commonly used for post-operative healing... cheers, kernelpanic

    Mil-Spec_PRF_31013_SPECS - Safety Goggles

I've had good experiences with the SPECs and also with the Gentex BLPS. The green lenses are great for red/IR and the brown ones are good for the entire visible spectrum. (Also the 'S' lenses on the Gentex glasses work great for blu-ray.) I think the thickness of the polycarbonate and the amount...

My laser makes a red lit dot in thin air...

I also was skeptical when I first read this thread. Hence my trying to reproduce the effect. I'm not really sure the 'dot' is the same color as the laser. The 'dot' will sit there for 10-20 seconds. When it stops, it winks out. Since one has to burn something to initiate this effect, I doubt...

My laser makes a red lit dot in thin air...

Hello All, Wow! I just successfully reproduced this effect tonight. It's really very cool. I can only think of 2 competing explanations. Either- 1. The air is combusting at the focus of the beam and producing oxides of Nitrogen. ( N2 + O [ch8594] NO + N or N + O2 [ch8594] NO + O ) (Possibly...

    Why can't I burn stuff?

I'm not saying it won't work. I'm saying it's not optimal. Most builders here end up moving to rechargables as the performance is good and they are more economical. But it's more difficult to do this with blu-ray's than with other lasers because of the voltage requirements of the diode...

    Why can't I burn stuff?

9V batteries pretty much suck AFA lasers go. They just don't put out enough current for long enough. You'll be much better off using something that can draw more current for longer. Better combinations for the rckstr driver would be- 3- CR123s in series for 9V (or RCR123's for 10.8V) 3- 14500's...

    How to dream better?

The dream journal is a good idea as it helps you remember your dreams. As for waking up, it doesn't have to be in the middle of the night. When you go to sleep, you quickly fall into deep (Delta wave) sleep. As the night progresses one sleeps lighter and lighter. Dreams happen during lighter REM...
