    Glow Crazy

The 'fail' is probably most likely due to the them using the cheapest GITD material possible rather than the source. the 'pens' in these look to be a low power 405, coupled with a near UV LED.. After all, Good GITD material will 'charge' even with very low levels of UV while the cheap stuff...

    589nm (yellow) laser

Pretty much all the yellows originate from CNI one way or the other. Your choices are CNI, Dragonlasers(which resells CNI) and Laserglow(which resells CNI)

    589nm (yellow) laser

I would advise against betting on it being 'extremely overspec'. When I ordered a 1mW 589 GLP.. That's pretty much exactly what I got. At least while it worked at all.

    Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope as collimator?

I always wanted a good telescope. the decent ones are $$$ though, which I rarely have.

    New Boost Driver in Dev

Reality is sometimes a harsh mistress unfortunately. And IP rights usually boil down to 'who ever has the most money to throw at it, wins'. The only real benefit filing for and obtaining a patent has for the 'little guy' anymore is protection from large entities that do have money, that may...

    New Boost Driver in Dev

Hate to say it, but unless you have a MUCH bigger market than just hobbyists, if your going to that much trouble and expense, then you'll find it will likely take years.. if ever, to recoup your investment. Plus your patents will only be applicable in the country they are filed in, so you'll...

Review: 510nm Direct Green Diodes / Build Photos (DGH-N1, DGH-N2)

I bet there will be a difference in the look. Plus diode lasers have the benefit of of actually working every time you turn them on without being picky about temperature, etc.

    FDA Compliant importers

I just think the easier it is to 'get legal', the better off the hobby will be in the long run. And getting the proper variances is one thing there's a lot of confusion over.

    FDA Compliant importers

Well I was really referring to a concise itemized list that's all together in one place, and easy to find, and most importantly, written by someone who's actually completed the process successfully so it's not just a bunch of guesses. (which rules me out at the moment, heh) I think it should...

    FDA Compliant importers

Nice info EF. There really should be a dedicated stickied thread here in the lasershow section that itemizes and lists exactly what's required to get and maintain a variance for a DIY projector.

21 year old arrested for hitting an aircraft with a laser

Actually i'm done competing in this special olympics. I'll continue to follow my interpretation of the laws and stay out of jail and avoid the fines, and you and everyone else can continue doing as you damn well please until lasers get banned outright and even possession becomes illegal.

Review: 510nm Direct Green Diodes / Build Photos (DGH-N1, DGH-N2)

The efficiency will hopefully improve, but I think the basic electrical characteristics (Vf of between 7V and 8V) are probably not going to change for these diodes. And Ben.. I think that's mostly what *these* diodes are already. I heard through the grapevine that >520nm IS available.. but at...

21 year old arrested for hitting an aircraft with a laser

It tells me nothing I don't already know. And you should probably ask Mr Tylka again, and make sure you inform him you're referring to class 3b and up lasers.. Then you'll receive a drastically different answer from him. You have to keep in mind the terminology in use here. The FDA doesn't...

Review: 510nm Direct Green Diodes / Build Photos (DGH-N1, DGH-N2)

It's unlikely Ka$i0 will do it because more than likely, their phosphor disc is a much cheaper way to make suitable green.. The direct green diodes would have to prove to be cheaper, and better than that method before they'd change the design. Most likely initial use will be limited to pico...

Review: 510nm Direct Green Diodes / Build Photos (DGH-N1, DGH-N2)

Depends on how many he's ordering. He's a business, so you know he's making money off it or he wouldn't be doing it.

    Liquid lenses with lasers

I'm not sure this is really good technology to have in a high powered laser. Or a portable. For one, under high powers, you have to worry about your lens 'boiling off'. And also, what happens if you accidentally drop your laser and your lens dislodges and splashes on the diode? heh

    808nm diode Lead Polarities?

Actually 5.6mm diodes are TO-56, not TO-18.. TO-18 package laser diodes only have one pin out the back.. I discovered this recently heh. Anyway, if it's a TO-56, these are generally all case positive, and one of the non-case pins will be negative. Looking at the diode from the back, with the...

    Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope as collimator?

Well when you do, point it this way. I might be able to see it. :D

21 year old arrested for hitting an aircraft with a laser

Actually your wrong on both counts. While the FAA doesn't have jurisdiction over 'lasers' per se, they DO have jurisdiction over anything entering 'airspace'.. including beams of coherent photons. It's true they can't arrest you(unless you actually strike an aircraft), but they can fine the...

    Dual Direction Green laser Sword/Fun/Club/Cool

CNI actually sells one similar to the o-like one heh. They don't really allude to what it's supposed to be used for though, other than the 'laser show application' blurb. http://www.cnilaser.com/PDF/PGL-III-D-532.pdf
