    Cheap automotive HID ballast teardown

Thanks for the pointers! I've got a few used Philips 81522+ D2S bulbs that would make a nice spotlight, and aftermarket ballasts are getting cheaper and cheaper, hard for me to not turn this into another one of my incomplete projects

Do you need a driver for 3w UV emitter?

^Your output will probably dim as your battery drains, and unless you use a fancier driver, you won't be using the full capacity of your battery, but rather the capacity between full battery and the point at which the voltage is too low to drive the LED. But, it's like putting a safety circuit...

    Cheap automotive HID ballast teardown

Any of you gurus have tips on how to identify sense resistors? Like, I know a controller has to use resistors to sense how much current is flowing via how much voltage a known resistor drops, but what kind of controller would I be looking for? Is that what the op amp does, i.e. the little...

    Wtb gitd o-rings

Consider also, epoxy or clear nail polish mixed with raw glow pigment. You can put this on anything, not just circular grooves. I got mine from glowinc.com, but there are lots of places to buy glow powders/pigments. Keep in mind, the brighter ones have more of a sandy texture, the particle...

    Alternative for AAA

I've used eneloops in my pointers before. Sometimes they work great, sometimes they don't. Using a 10440 often also results in a brighter laser too. As with anything that you overdrive, you do risk damaging laser. But a pen laser is cheap  Main thing to keep in mind is that 2xAAA is...

Is there such thing as a universal Beam expander?

http://laserpointerforums.com/f49/adaptive-optics-easy-add-any-hand-held-88432.html http://laserpointerforums.com/f49/adaptive-optics-ez-add-any-hand-held-unit-proto-type-done-89122.html These threads have some interesting ideas in them. But yeah, if you wanted to, you could buy any beam...

Lithium Ion equivalent for AA and AAA

I would suggest buying protected smaller cells, if you must use small cells. People overestimate how much current they are drawing from their small cells. 10440 you shouldn't pull more than an amp from. 14500, shouldn't pull more than 1.5A from. If you need more than that from that size...

    Help opening press fitted host

The piece I'm working on is anodized pink/red. I was using a lighter to heat it up, with no side effects or discoloration. I think discoloration occurs if the dye used isn't very heat tolerant. I don't think it hurts the anodize, since the anodize is just metal oxide, which is pretty tough...

The "Sun Shiner" (a triple MT-G2 build that pushes the definition of "practical")

Re: The "Sun Shiner" (a triple MT-G2 build that pushes the definition of "practical") Could also think of it this way: You've sacrificed efficacy for a nice tint.... And yet it is still way brighter! Who says you can't have your cake and eat it, too?

    Help opening press fitted host

I'm in a similar conundrum. I have aluminum head with brass pill, which is loctite'd in with probably red loctite (the other 3 heads were red loctite, supposedly softens with heat). I've poured nail polish remover into the seam a few times, boiled and frozen and boiled and frozen, numerous...

    18650 Laptop Battery Pulling?

Quality bare cells would probably end up being cheaper, and you can now buy these in single and small quantities from various sellers.

SOLD: Various defective lasers for parts Make offer

Re: FS: Various defective lasers for parts Make offer Is bidding on the whole lot? I was gonna ask how many square inches of antistatic plastic would you require, specifically for item 2? I have scraps only, no bulk, but if my scraps add up, may they be usable?

    Skunk Smell

People say oatmeal fixes skunk smell. Have you tried filling all the vents with oatmeal and turning on the heater? I'd use cooked oatmeal; dry oatmeal would just blow out the vents and make a mess :D

Hey everyone, I need some help calculating wavelength for my next project.....

Do keep in mind that, depending on your cavity mirrors' coatings, you may end up with a multiline plaid, rather than monochromatic plaid, because merino wool-doped cotton has very many spectral lines capable of gain.

Game: Guess the mystery object !

The internet advertisement for HMike's image would read: "See how this one easy trick can double your length!" (ok, so more likely, double your frequency, but that doesn't sound as much like an internet advertisement)

Anybody into Electric-Bicycles? Looking for a custom battery pack!

Magic Pie - first taste Looks like ~30A draw in some situations may be necessary. You'll need high power cells, or you'll have to make a series-parallel array, which might be complicated to charge properly. Yeah, a pack maker ought to be able to get you what you need. Just make sure they...

    LPS SOX Sodium Lamps

I remember as a kid, swinging on the swingset in the school playground after school, waiting for the LPS lamps on the side of the school building to turn on. It was fascinating seeing how they warm up, seeing the colors move along the tube. Ours were in those rolled steel enclosure/reflector...

Game: Guess the mystery object !

This plant usually only grows in the humid hot regions of southwestern China. It's official name is Flowering Plant #E12. A single plant can produce as many as 12 bulbs in a given year, and the plant is now hybridized and farmed mainstream. In the US, it is known as the Candelabra Tree. When...

Can anybody here identify this plant?

I thought it was an oak based on the leaves, but the little horn bud thingys threw me for a loop. Plus, the leaves didn't look quite right. I'm no tree enthusiast, though. I just remember the oak leaf from some stupid emblem to some company I don't even remember.
