How to remove oxide from laser module?

Is there not an alloy of copper that doesn't tarnish? Seems that tarnishing is only desirable for a copper host when you want it to patina, but not so much for a heat spreader, where you want it to be able to transfer heat too.

    Experimental: Remote solid state lighting

Good thing the target is a large, rectangular piece of plastic. You might could expand the beam out and get a big portion of that plastic to convert. I wonder if efficiency change is noticeable, i.e. does the room look any brighter if you defocus vs. focused as tightly as possible without...

Game: Guess the mystery object !

My neighbors had some of these plants, I think. They make little peanut-shaped pods, and have pointy, palm-like leaves at the base? Some kinda desert plant, because they had it planted in a bed of rocks and pumice. Regarding the stinky big annual flower plant thing, whoa. Just, whoa. Does...

    8-diode 445 in a very cool host

Pff, they can't even make a proper lowbeam with it? I swear, the semiconductor industry hands them a pure block of gold and the auto industry polishes it into the shape of a turd. So much potential, and yet they shine a laser at a phosphor impregnated piece of plastic and call it groundbreaking...

When in doubt, just say it's a mosfet.

    Hello guys!!!

I wonder if *somebody* is interested in a particular wavelength, say, ~450nm? Welcome to the forums! Although having just gone through a few root canals, a crown extension, and having to put off fixing this massive caries until next year, by which time I'm sure my whole tooth will have rotted...

    Jokes thread!

As much as I like driving, this needs to happen. I'm tired of sitting in traffic for 2 hours of my day when I only live a few interstate exits down from my work... Oh, and the deaths from car crashes, but mostly traffic. If rush hour traffic doesn't make you lose faith in human intelligence...

    FastTech's AMC7135 "Advanced +" IC's ???

These inexpensive regulators are often used in 1 cell flashlights. Doing a simple ali search for flashlight shows that there are thousands of variants of flashlights. I can see these companies finding the lowest cost chip that says amc7135 and using that. Because an underpowered LED...

    making fog juice?

atomizing is different from burning. Also, it has been used in the food industry for ages. Safe to eat. That said, I don't inhale vapor. Even food isn't safe to inhale.

What is wrong with those Chinese flashlights?

Driver is circuitry between the battery and LED that regulates power to the LED. If the driver is set to only power the LED with low current, your LED will be dim. Battery. As someone else mentioned, some batteries aren't designed for high power output. For performance flashlights, you...

My laser's trip from California to Paris.

I'm curious, if they do not have access to the batteries, how will they test to see if they are >1mW? Or will they even bother, or just look at the labels? Are you taking your lasers in pieces, or as one piece sans batteries? Do you have any scary-looking (as in, "looks powerful", not "has...

    XML 9T6 "11000Lumen"

If you get the right batteries, 14A is easily obtainable, esp. with 18650 size.

Anyone know of some over powered flashlights?

You'll need some good batteries first and foremost. Folks seem to like the SkyRay King and its various clones, and they're fairly economical. Usually have 3 or 4 XM-L LEDs. Some clones are crap, though, so do some research if you go this route. If it is lux you are after, consider a large...

    making fog juice?

While I don't use it in a fogger, I get my PG from RTSVapes Wholesale Kosher USP Propylene Glycol: Food Grade Gycol & Liquid PG edit: oh, and glycerin from the pharmacy is more or less the same thing, but with added ingredients like scents and stabilizers or something like that. I wouldn't...

LIGHT goes off after 30 Seconds? Wad?

Clean all your metal-on-metal and metal on pcb connections make sure the retaining ring for the switch is snug enough too. Taking it apart all the way and putting it back together sometimes magically fixes cheap lights too, probably because the parts accidentally get cleaned when you take it...

Got a New Maglite. What is the clear plastic blob on emitter?

Of interesting note, not all maglites have domed LEDs. The new LED Solitaire has a luxeon Z, if I remember correctly http://www.philipslumileds.com/uploads/415/DS105-pdf But yeah, it is an efficiency optic that helps extract all light from the LED. Without it, some light would be lost or made...

Is there such thing as a universal Beam expander?

Alright, then, negative nancy! ;) A little bit of thread locker is a small price to pay for a universal beam expander :san:

    M140: Powering with USB?

At 5V, the M140 would allow ~3.5-4A, which is too much for this little beastie, and definitely would either trip a temporary fuse on your computer or just burn up that USB port. Visually extrapolated from this graph...
