Any of you using laser for OTHER than entertainment or experimenting?

My primary USE of lasers is in the forensic end of things, typically to point out something too far away to otherwise specify, such as a defect/feature or clue as to what happened/went wrong, etc. I also lecture/teach, but for that, the typical red pointer was fine. I only got into more...

SOLD: Power metered 200mw 301 lasers

Re: $0.30 + shipping: Power metered 200mw 301 lasers Maybe they play with them at customs?

    Reason of decreasing laser intensity

What heat sink was it mounted on too, etc?

    Reason of decreasing laser intensity

What duty cycle were you using, and, is it possible the diode got too hot?

[Solved] Aluminum's ability to transfer heat w/ paint?

Re: Aluminum's ability to transfer heat w/ paint? Sure, think of it like this: You can make paint hot. When the paint is hot, it will make the metal its painted onto, hot too. It just won't transfer that heat as quickly, as it acts as an insulator, albeit with a small R value. :D

    Another Bad Customer

Its a PITA. Some buyers claim they never received stuff that they did, or that it was damaged or the box was empty, or complain about shipping delays to try to get a refund, or even threaten to write a bad review, etc, if they don't get what they want. (Blackmail essentially) Because some...

[Solved] Aluminum's ability to transfer heat w/ paint?

Re: Aluminum's ability to transfer heat w/ paint? The heat sink needs, ideally, to be paint free, and as smooth as possible to maximize conduction. The more contact surface area, the better the conduction. Two smooth surfaces will have more contact than painted, or rough surfaces, etc.

    Hi

As you did say "In your House", the DOT being visible is not a problem, all inexpensive lasers should make a visible dot assuming the wavelength itself is in that spectrum. The BEAM being visible is the issue, as the beam needs to hit dust, moisture, etc, and light THAT up to be visible...

    Japanese car thread

TO quickly explain the differences between hp for example (Specs vs specs), the measurement procedure was changed...so, yes, a HP is an HP, but if one is tested at the wheel, and one is tested at the brake, and, some with, and some without, attached accessories....the same car will produce...

Re: free- starter kit I hope they post some pics of the builds/beams when done. :D

Battery information you may want to know

If you want unbiased third party reviews of cells, there's this guy (HKJ) over at candlepower forum, who does them. Very indepth reviews with graphs of performance at different amp loads, etc. His site is: lygte-info.dk http://www.lygte-info.dk/info/indexBatteriesAndChargers%20UK.html His...

    Japanese car thread

Some things to consider: They have changed how mpg is calculated and measured several times, so you can't compare the published mpg from older to newer cars. They have changed how horsepower is measured several times, so you can't compare HP from older/newer cars either...at least not...

    Japanese car thread

The market is fairly international, with many shared parts, etc. Look at the list of makers/models all impacted by the same air bag part recall, let alone all the germans running for cover when VW's scandal turned into all of them, and so forth.

That's Indian, not Japanese. You're doing it wrong. :eg:

    NUBM44 6W+ 450nm Laser Diode

I think part of the confusion about heat loss/cooling our devices, is that heat LOSS for example can have 3 main avenues: Conduction, radiation and convection. The heat from a source needs to get TO a place it CAN be lost FROM. So, a sink is used, typically via conduction, to get the heat to...

    445nm issues (I killed it...)

The first thing I do is take a sharpie and mark the +/- ends I do this ASAP because I'm dyslexic, and also have so many devices that take so many different battery options, I WILL forget what goes in what. I had two flashlights, the same, but one took the cells one way, and the other, the...

    NASA Mars press conference.

They found the water evidence via spectrometer readings, so the spectra seemed to identify magnesium perchlorate and chlorate, and sodium perchlorate. Not exactly what we see in earth's oceans as brine, but, then again, that's Mars Brine I suppose. :D A hydrated salt of any type is at least...

    Jokes thread!

Yeah, probably made up by someone who's never been in a walmart....possibly never in the US. 1) http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/americanized-kinder-surprise-chocolate-egg-approved-fda-article-1.1290804 2) "oh no, sir".....that was never said by a walmart employee. 3) "we don't sell...

    Long range lasers?

Yeah, on wood, the 5 mW's dot would not be visible at 1/4 mile....at all. You are also going to have the dot get larger with distance. So, what's your budget? :D
