    Lasers in the bright sunlight

Would be interesting to get various members from different types of areas like city to desert as you mentioned, and have them take videos in macro of the beams outdoors.. The air quality in a big city through winter is not nearly as bad as summer mixed in with pollen and the like. You can see...

Laser Fundamentals MIT Video Lecture / A Must See.

Came across this video, and there are more on various subjects.. No matter how much I read, its nice to sit back and listen to the words spoken. Even better, by a professor  I will add more of any videos I happen across like this set. A great watch regardless of your knowledge. :beer...

    Pesky BenBoost Drivers

Re: Pesky 12x diodes IIRC they are 0805 tantalum's, 100uf plus a couple of small ceramic to help suppress ripple. I came to a combination while running on a scope for the PHR's and 6x diodes... There was talk that the 405 LD's may be sensitive to ripple as well, so I was being over protective...

    Pesky BenBoost Drivers

Re: Pesky 12x diodes They can go up around 28v, but with a low current application.. A note on the caps.. I was using over 100uf on the output side. If you look up some notes in the search from IgorT, he was also using this IC for some time and was also for 405's from the PHR up to the 12x...

    Pesky BenBoost Drivers

Re: Pesky 12x diodes From what ive read, the 12's have a vf of 6v > http://laserpointerforums.com/f38/12x-murder-fund-graph-45355-13.html Not sure if that is the case for the diodes you are using.. but if thats the case the battery would have to exceed that 6v, which I dont think would be the...

    Pesky BenBoost Drivers

Re: Pesky 12x diodes A higher input voltage should only be a problem if it exceeds the vf of the diode.. The 3410 will pass more current when this is exceeded, but thats the only circumstance that ive seen more current reaching the diode.. Again, this driver has a completely different layout...

    Pesky BenBoost Drivers

Re: Pesky 12x diodes Im not familiar with the driver in question, but some drivers are picky on what you power them with.. Are these the LM3410 based drivers? If yes, I used that IC for a while, and always tested on batteries as the boards didnt like my benchtop PSU.+ In fact...

    Pesky BenBoost Drivers

Re: Pesky 12x diodes One thing to keep in mind here is that these are diodes from sleds which are most likely factory seconds.. For one reason or another if they did not meet the required specs they get tossed.. 405nm, no matter what origin are very prone to COD. You could have these in a...

    Win thread

The research that is in motion covers all of the above.. including teeth.. Besides, on teeth alone you can get the implants which is a stud that a solid tooth is fitted to and as good, if not better than the original.. Im in my mid 30's, so im hopeful.. I agree to give organs to a younger...

    Win thread

That is if the 2012 monster doesnt get us first  I agree, the super rich will probably get dibs on the first life extensions but keep in mind that would only make them so much money.. Lets hope China gets to some discoveries first.. you will be able to get a new liver for 20$ with the...

    Win thread

To be honest, I cant see us being far off. Technology has literally exploded if you make a comparison to 25 years ago. The $ involved in such research and the desire of most people to live an extended life is a major driving force. My only concern would be, what happens when we no longer get...

Is it possible to make custom diffraction lenses?

Thats a good route if you need custom lettering etc.. If just the shape of a star as mentioned in the OP, hed probably spend a lot less with a simple old school dollar store pointer and caps.. IIRC there were 12$ pointers with like 50 caps.. got to be one in there. Wish I could find my middle...

Is it possible to make custom diffraction lenses?

Unfortunately if you google laser and stars, I doubt he will find the type hes looking for. I just tried on ebay and got what I figured.. Try searching ebay for 'red keychain laser' and take your chances with ones that come with a bunch of the heads, or try asking the seller. Just watch...

Low cost thermal adhesive.. DIY Tutorial

Ive always used arctic silver both thermal paste as well as the quick set epoxy. I have yet to have any trouble with bridging connections with this stuff, just keep it clear of any open contacts. It comes down to what you are using it for.. As DTR pointed out either in this thread or another...

Neat historical videos from AT&T/Bell Labs on Lasers!

I will have a browse of the content.. I also found this one.. Pretty funny looking back to the technology of the 80's.. Seems to be around the time where great leaps were beginning to be made. AT&T Archives : Bell Laboratories Technology in 1981
