    SOLDERING WITH LIGHT / 1.55W 445nm L.A.S.E.R

If you were to use this for soldering SMD, you eliminate the solder iron tip so it may be an interesting idea to try. A foot switch would make a lot of sense and would not be that difficult to setup. A beefy resistor to keep the current low, and the switch acting as a bypass to allow ful...

    445 nm window break...

Not necessarily true.. A beam can pass through mineral oil and still have lots of energy on the other side of the container. Mineral oil is also non conductive.. The only thing you would have to worry about is how clean the oil is from particles, and if it would have any harsh effect on the...

Seeking Advice from experinced Fourm sellers and buyers

LOL... @RE, quit worrying about the arguing, convincing or whatever you want to call it. Do some reading, practice some soldering , build a laser and move on. Sitting around and getting worked up about what person A and person B have to say will not gain you any building experience. Move on...

Is there anyway to do a quick 2-3 second test of a LD without driver?

The pic I reposted is the more bluish coating, that is your red.. If the drive was a rated 16x DVD burner, then you're good till 200mA or a tad more. If you give the red 200mA and the diode blows, than it was a really low power red and no big loss anyway.. I'd set your driver up, get it...

DIY 473nm / FRANKEN-TEK B&W Transplant To Handheld With TEC

To my understanding its a wavelength used for pumping, though I have not read much deeper than that. The datasheet gives the temp of the TEC and all test parameters.. One way to calibrate a DIY LPM as well as spectrometer. I was actually thinking last night after posting the pics, if one used...

Re: SALE 1.5W+ 3 Mode Mini's W Gold Plated Copper Heatsink Video Added Welcome back  The pic was just the first thing that popped into my mind.. Im sure there is more to it..

Is there anyway to do a quick 2-3 second test of a LD without driver?

Pic below should be your red.. The bottom pic in your post should be your 780nm NIR, remember you wont see much light from this one, but its emitting infrared, be careful. Also, if you dont know where this sled came from, it could also be a DVD/CD reader.. If thats the case, both will be 5mW or so.

My wife put my laser away(broke my HeNe)

Dont know if you could use five... LOT OF 5 HENE 635 NM HELIUM NEON LASER TUBES MELLES GRIOT | eBay Theres 5 tubes for 50$ + shipping. They look to be the small tubes but just in case you may want to inquire on the dimensions. Perhaps the extra 4 could serve as 'replacements' for future wifey...

Is there anyway to do a quick 2-3 second test of a LD without driver?

Look at the reflection of the coating on the diode windows.. The darker bluish is your red.. My guess is the one on the right, can only see the slight reflection of the one on the left. If it was a 16x DVD burner (most likely) the CD rate would be a 48X or whatever that stagnant number has...

Is there anyway to do a quick 2-3 second test of a LD without driver?

If you have some computer parts, you can use the power supply from a PC. Hook into the 11.85v rail, and the 317 will do the rest. You can also run it off of 4x AA 1.5v batteries.. 6v should be enough for testing.. You may be able to use the 5V rail as well, but I cant be for certain. Its been...

    Showing off my PHR-803T build

I couldnt tell you.. When I was working with a lot of PHR's it was some time back, and used the same lenses all the time. Comparisons have been made between lenses on the forum, have a look in the search. Aside from that, I cant tell you much..

Is there anyway to do a quick 2-3 second test of a LD without driver?

For a 16x red, you dont want to go much over 200mA, 250mA at most.. Any testing without a current regulated power source is risky, especially on the lower power diodes. Make yourself an LM317 driver, and keep it just for testing.. This is the safest route. The circuit is simple to make and...

    Showing off my PHR-803T build

At that current with an aixiz glass lens, you should be seeing around 115mW~125mW depending on the diode.. Nice work

DIY 473nm / FRANKEN-TEK B&W Transplant To Handheld With TEC

My bad, had to pull the datasheet on the diode.. Its a Coherent diode 673.1nm used for pumping... Its a long life rated 500mW cmount diode, mounted in those monster t-03 with TEC. The emphasis on super long life leads me to believe that it will put out more than 500mW with no problem. Even if...

Low cost thermal adhesive.. DIY Tutorial

For the amounts being worked with, and a non pyro grade AL, I wouldn't be too worried.. AL flake on the other hand will ignite with a brief shot of a laser, with no oxidizer added. You can also hit the spherical AL with a torch and nothing happens. it glows under flame but will not sustain any...

    SOLDERING WITH LIGHT / 1.55W 445nm L.A.S.E.R

Im not sure of all the particulars, I had read an article by somebody attempting to use the 445 LD when they first came out for holography.. There was mention of stabilizing the output at low current, but came to the conclusion that they are not good for his use. His experiments and notes...
