    New LaserPedia

Yes, I envision this to be much more robust. The wiki is only a portion of the site. I too read Sam's and the man is a god in my eye's but my goal is to bring together multiple technical resources under one roof.

    New LaserPedia

Hey all, I have been toying with the idea of putting together a site dedicated to accurate laser information and dissemination from a hobby perspective. What this site would entail is primarily articles about laser systems, operations, theory, and how-to using a CMS and definitions/encyclopedia...

    Blu-Ray Goggles under $5

If they do not meet ANSI Z.136 or CE EN207 standards then no they are not guaranteed to be laser protective. No one in their right mind will say they are as it is irresponsible to do so.

    real basic c mount question

The beam tends to be rectangular or square at best. You need some fancy optics to make it round but it can be done. C-mounts are not physically coupled to your external optics. Often there is a diode sitting out in free space with a pair of cylindrical lenses or an anamorphic prism pair or other...

    60 Watt Laser Destruction

Yeah, the cylindrical lenses would be for awesome burnination, not long range. Yes, there is chance to damage the emitters even with low power reflections. I say why take the chance if you don't have AR optics.

    60 Watt Laser Destruction

From the title I was scared you destroyed a 60W laser! Those diode bars are great. Good thinking on the high angle of the focusing optic to prevent back reflections onto the emitters. I'm sure the optic is not coated for 808nm (looks like a lens from an overhead projector to me). If you ever...

building an FDA compliant portable laser

If you are building a laser for your own use there is no requirement for compliance. Safety systems would be just for your sake. If you are building a laser for sale >5mW you should have a key switch safety (on/off), power switch (on/off) and interlock, an indicator lamp (laser emission...

Re: The Ultimate In Laser Technology

Re: The Ultimate In Laser Technology No that is a real CNI module. http://cnilaser.com/PDF/S-GDL-532.pdf It's listed as new but that is not the case. CNI has had this tiny form factor for a while. It might be listed as new because it now goes to 150mW

Re: The Ultimate In Laser Technology It's not a diode it's a DPSS laser.

Danger from IR leakage from lasers vs IR heaters

Re: Danger from IR leakage from lasers vs IR heate The primary issue with IR leakage and IR laser exposure in general is that your blink reflex is useless. You eyes don't know to close and your head to turn away during a potential dangerous exposure. This allows your eyes to generally be...

    safety googles 400nm-700nm?

That is the ANSI verbiage. It is the requirement for certification. It means they meet the requirements. The standard is Z.136 if you want to look at it. The dyes will not bleach for a minimum of 10 seconds if you take a direct shot to the eye. It gives you the time to get out of the way...

    safety googles 400nm-700nm?

Look at the ML7 glasses. They will protect against low power reds, green and IR. They do not however protect against blue. http://store.oemlasersystems.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=8_10_15&products_id=44

    DPSS design for blue/yellow?

Q is the quality factor. It is 2pi times the ratio of the stored energy to the dissipated energy per time period. Essentially a measure of gain versus loss. Destroying the Q means creating losses higher than the gain which in our case will not allow the resonator to oscillate. So you have all...

    DPSS design for blue/yellow?

We all know the primary transition of vanadate is 1064nm. This follows the standard four level lasing profile. It is frequency doubled to 532nm. Blue, on the other hand is a bit different. The upper lasing level for 946nm is the same as 1064nm but the terminal level of the 946nm line is the...

    laser mfg auction

I'm looking at those nice optical spectrum analyzers, O-scopes, optical tables, driver systems, TEC systems, etc. There's an auction for a lot of laser diodes in various levels of manufacturer. Huge bins. Now, to grab $20,000 and head to NY, lol.

    3 watts of DPSS green!

Just an update: Absolutely no response to my query about the serial number. This is a fraud. Someone is going to get screwed as there are 4 bids on it already.

Which Safety Goggles Should I Get?

Well I appreciate you purchasing from us but my point is simply if you are going to argue, make sure your argument is logical. If you already have a predisposed position, do not ask for suggestions. People look at these threads and some assume they are gospel. Unfortunately, many are based in...

    iraq war ending !!!

I've written about the Iraq subject in other venues but my whole premise is we backed the wrong horse (again). Who fought and died for their freedom shoulder to shoulder with our special operations forces? It was the Kurds. If I had my way, Iraq would be split into north and south with the new...

    3 watts of DPSS green!

I haven't bid on it. And it seems it's not legit.

    3 watts of DPSS green!

It is identical. I guess I'll have to ask the seller a couple of questions and see what's what. EDIT: I just asked for the serial number on the head and a photo of the serial number plate on the driver and laser head.
