Here's a suggestion: pop out and reseat the main switch. Mine had a resistance of 1.2 ohms all by itself, so I took a closer look to see if there was a resistor in there. The knob you press can be pried off easily with a small flathead, revealing the white plastic post of the switch itself...

Aaahhhh, glad to see that this may finally coming to an end! It's enough to finally make me sign up here just to say so (I was part of the CPF side of this GB). If there is a bright side to all this, it's that I paid for this so long ago it's like it's "free" ;)
