Some idiot reversed polarity on my PGL--III-C.

Krutz: I've safely run a PHR with my particular PSU; it lets me cap the current at a specified value, so I set it to something well below maximum spec for testing, just enough to see some light, and with filter caps. Nevertheless, I should get some LM317's as you suggest anyway. Thanks for the...

Some idiot reversed polarity on my PGL--III-C.

Well, I couldn't determine any way to open this thing up from the back, so I tried the front. Three set screws for the shutter, followed by a lens mount and the laser assembly held behind a retaining ring threaded inside the heatsink. IR filter glued to the front of the laser aperture (quite...

Some idiot reversed polarity on my PGL--III-C.

Um, taking a look at this thing now... does anyone have experience with disassembling these? It looks pretty tight. google yielded nothing.

Some idiot reversed polarity on my PGL--III-C.

So it may be just the driver, eh? That would be nice. I should note that the battery was freshly charged (4.2V), don't know if that might provide the extra bit to bork the diode. HIMNL9: that sounds like the reason why these things are positive to the tail >:( I have a power supply with...

    Brown Laser

Brown laser? Sounds like the laser version of this. Point the laser at the wall, people look at it, and.... yikes, imagine slipping one of those into a laser show at a concert.

Some idiot reversed polarity on my PGL--III-C.

Unfortunately, it was me :P Got the magic smoke and all... I know that smell anywhere. So: is this fixable by a hobbyist, or are DPSS units too precise? Can parts be had? Spec info: this is a 3.7V single cell lithium unit, green DPSS =~ 250mW or so.

    Blu-ray SUNBURN! whoops!

Past 470nm or so, photons are energetic enough to fragment DNA at the molecular level.  That's why near-UV light and shorter cause sunburn (and skin cancer).

    FS:405 BlueRay with Aixis module

hey hydro, I'll shoot you an email once I get home tonight.

    FS:405 BlueRay with Aixis module

Hi hydro, I can't PM due to post count, so I'll ask here. (No idea if I can *receive* PM's...) I'd like 2 of these, and I work in Hollywood, so can arrange a direct pickup from Pasadena or other suitable L.A. location. It seems you are interested in trades, would one or two 120GB hard drive...

    Red diode temperature sensitivity

How sensitive to temperature variations should a 660nm red diode be? Does this vary wildly from diode to diode? My Sentorch seems to have a pretty wide swing depending on temperature. I was noticing that it seems to lose some intensity after I've been using it a bit. So, I sat it in the freezer...

GB 200mW Blue or 300mW Green laser

    Last I checked, 1 Euro =$1.48 US dollars (as of 11/20/07) So, E1100 x 1.48 = $1628 and E460 x 1.48 = $680.80 Shipping: E68 x 1.48 = $100.64 and E55 x 1.48 = $81.40 For a total of $1728.64 for the blue $762.20 for the green. - not-so-lazy Canadian cuss ;D

    Interest guage - 200mw 660nm red pointers...

Here's a suggestion: pop out and reseat the main switch. Mine had a resistance of 1.2 ohms all by itself, so I took a closer look to see if there was a resistor in there. The knob you press can be pried off easily with a small flathead, revealing the white plastic post of the switch itself...

    Interest guage - 200mw 660nm red pointers...

Well, my replacement unit showed up today, and sure enough, within half an hour I broke it :P It rolled off the book it was sitting on, hit the edge of the chair and pop! two pieces, just like Senkat's first batch. Fortunately, that brass ring joint gives way easily, so no permanent damage...

    Interest guage - 200mw 660nm red pointers...

Tell me about it... all these "OMFG IT'S A MONSTER" posts have me thinking that I could use a spare [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif] ... but I'm under the severest of spending embargoes while I catch my financial breath after a very expensive year.

    Interest guage - 200mw 660nm red pointers...

Just a quick note for everyone: I didn't take it to email because I was pissed at Senkat or anything, it was mainly to keep a few uncertainties out of the public eye for the moment. We are working out a plan on how to handle this.

    Interest guage - 200mw 660nm red pointers...

These batteries are from a stash of reliable shouldn't-explode new Sanyo cells I keep for multi-cell applications. The unit went from blazing full power to keychain output in two subsequent clicks. (Edited to add: swapped in a new pair of fresh cells. No change. and no flickering or variations...

    Interest guage - 200mw 660nm red pointers...

Mine worked for about a minute, it's a 5mW pointer now. I can't even tell if it's lasing anymore o not... if it's an LED now, it's brighter than the dr_lava DVD burner diode was, after I toasted it during testing. Is it even worth trying for a warranty claim after all this, or should I simply...

You mean I have to wait over the weekend? *whine* :'( Seriously, Senkat, no big deal at my end, given how big a deal for you the rest of this whole thing turned out to be.

Aaahhhh, glad to see that this may finally coming to an end! It's enough to finally make me sign up here just to say so (I was part of the CPF side of this GB). If there is a bright side to all this, it's that I paid for this so long ago it's like it's "free" ;)
