    radiation levals THE FACTS

Agreed for the most part. There is one point I would like to make on the cardiovascular disease vs industrial accidents (which nuclear accidents is a tiny tiny TINY tiny percentage of) it's personal choice. We choose to eat the junk food, knowing it is bad. While a coal ash spill, or a...

    radiation levals THE FACTS

lol good point. Though I mentioned the reading at the gate largely due to a lack of up to date and plausible readings from farther away However this reading is way above the levels of contamination that the soviets used to justify abandonment of multiple cities after their two worst disasters...

    radiation levals THE FACTS

as a side note, I've been reading (and occasionally trolling) a few pro nuke power website blogs. Rather interesting to see how the pro nuclear power crowd sees the situation in japan. There is as much BS in the pro nuke crowd as the anti nuke. There is a lot of information there, however...

    Halo Style 2 stage COILGUN

Got a question, curious if anyone else has come across the answer yet. I'm wondering how bad the inductance of the coils are on the capacitors. The design I am working on would place the capacitors directly below the coils. Probably about 5mm or so apart. I've got little to no understanding...

    Halo Style 2 stage COILGUN

Have you tried Barry's coilgun sim? if you can calculate your pulse with it, you can figure out if the pulse crosses into the negative. I think it's the negative side of things that's bad for the components. I've seen people talking about wiring diodes in anti-parallel with the coil. and...

    Halo Style 2 stage COILGUN

Well, I can finally start moving forward with my coilgun :D The boost converter I was working on is now working. I had switched two wires somehow on the mosfet. A rather simple mistake but it took retracing every connection to figure out what I had done wrong. This one will end up making it...

    titanium for host

Well, the metal can still be worked. It just wouldn't get used for casting. Though in this case the working needs to be cold. (grinding and polishing into a shape) You could also anodize it blue. A simple torch flame can color it too. just heat until the metal starts to glow then take the...

    titanium for host

Ok, I've worked with titanium before, However, I had it cast for me by Ruger Investment Casting down in arizona. While it's melting point of 3034 F (1668 C) is rather high, Platinum has an even higher melting point at 3214 F (1768 C) The problem is Titanium will burn at 2,190 F. This is...

    Halo Style 2 stage COILGUN

so far, I've experienced nothing but FAIL just trying to build Uzzor's simple boost converter _-= Uzzors2k =-_ Project Site The thought of trying to build a ZVS driver probably won't work if I can't even make a much more simple boost converter work properly. lol (At least for me)...

    SOLD Sterling silver 10440 host

Re: FS: Sterling silver 10440 host I'm working on a side button momentary pushbutton one next. The pattern will be a bit different, but overall it will be very similar to this one. It will be out sometime this month. I am still working on one. I've got a partially constructed version in...

    SOLD Sterling silver 10440 host

Well, it looks like the original expected buyer on this one has backed out, so I am re-listing it. (no response for a while in private messages) The price tag is still $135 shipped in the US. For anyone from overseas who might be interested, send me a pm to let me know you are interested and...

    Halo Style 2 stage COILGUN

I'm aware that plasma would destroy the rails. Also that it has limited range. I'm thinking more along the lines of fun around the 4th of july (perfect time for fireworks etc) Sure it would require rebuilding the rails constantly, even if I went and bought copper tungsten for the rails it...

    Halo Style 2 stage COILGUN

Lol, I was thinking rather then shooting a solid projectile to intentionally shoot plasma. Hard on the rails of course. but no need for injection if you are simply putting in a wadded up piece of foil :D However, cannon blast at the right time of year would be a bonus, not a downside imo.

    Halo Style 2 stage COILGUN

ah ic. good to know. If I get a coilgun or two up and working, I might try for a railgun after, but that's a distant hypothetical situation.

    Halo Style 2 stage COILGUN

curious, what do you mean by "heavy sandwich" to make the puck type scrs work? I've heard they are the only real thing that works to switch larger capacitor banks. (been reading up on railguns too, but haven't found anything on how to implement this type of SCR)

SOLD Another sterling silver 10440 host

Re: FS: Another sterling silver 10440 host Pulled the switch out and checked the weight real fast this morning. this one weighs in at 85.32 grams. This counts the stone, which I didn't bother to weigh prior to setting.

SOLD Another sterling silver 10440 host

Re: FS: Another sterling silver 10440 host I was actually thinking of experimenting with a side clicky on one of my next couple hosts. I think I will refrain from making the gemstone be the button though as a few suggested, as the gemstone would get dirty much faster.

SOLD Another sterling silver 10440 host

Re: FS: Another sterling silver 10440 host :D I will definitely make more. Although they do take some time, I actually have the spare time again now that the christmas season is over and done with. We don't usually have a big valentines day rush at my work.
