these lasers are strong buggers. i took mine out when the sun went down (but it was still bright) and i could see the beam clearly. very nice lasers mine is rated at 164mW average output, how did u get a 178mW unit?

as i was once told but idioticaly ignored "buy what you want or wish to make once and be happy" in otherwords spend the extra coin to get what you want or spend money on higher quality parts and DIY. i ignored that statement and ended up laserless... untill now, i went with Optotronics

ebay is a good place to buy bad lasers. i did buy one of these ebay lasers, a 100mw. it was actualy only a 70mw lol. it seemed like a nice laser until it STOPPED working :X idk, maybe there are a few good 5mw lasers, but i will stick with the good brands

i didnt mean built. i beleave that VIASHO is the brand of the crystals and n-light is the brand of the ir diode (made in usa) but i am not sure that they are indeed made in the usa... i will have to contact optotronics on this one, as soon as i find out i will let you know

yeah, ur right. but honnestly if there is ever a problem with ur laser jack will take care of it. what i meant was that Optotronics is based in the USA and if you ever need assistance you r speaking with someone who understands srry for the false info

but look, u can go to wikidlasers and get a <150mw laser for like freeking 400 dollars lol. and well, skylasers is expensive and all the other brands that advertize the same beam quality and output power so yeah, $200 new is not at all bad... and its made in the USA

jack usualy says its a 150 average when its realy a 160 average. but droping .4-.6 volts is alot, especialy when your talking 2.6 rather than 3.0... or with lithiums, 3.4 volts... volts are volts

yeah thats funny. to answer your question yes it can realy make 150 (actualy more)mW because DPSS is about 35% effecient and the ir diode is 1 watt. therefore it could be 300mw lol. but as far as heat is concerned... keeep it cool but DO NOT ever put it in the fridge or freezer
