Sled extracted from Toshiba HD-A2 HDDVD player...

Re: Sled extracted from Toshiba HD-A2 HDDVD player Oh, ok...my mistake...I assumed the DT0811 was the sled which carried a KES-400. I thought they were one and the same. Well this is good to hear. On another positive note...I just replaced a dead C-mount in my Aixiz 50mw labby with a 500mw 808...

Sled extracted from Toshiba HD-A2 HDDVD player...

Re: Sled extracted from Toshiba HD-A2 HDDVD player I did some reading on the following thread: http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1209940381 From what I read here, I concluded that the sled used in these players (or at least the individual I received) contains the lower...

Sled extracted from Toshiba HD-A2 HDDVD player...

Today I disassembled a broken Toshiba HD-A2 HD-DVD player which I bought for cheap off of ebay. I found some really nice aluminum heatsinks, which for me, really made it worth it since I work with power mosfets and IGBT's in my other hobbies.

A quick and dirty enclosure for my Aixiz 5v labby

Re: A quick and dirty enclosure for my Aixiz 5v la Thanks for your compliments on the build...I've mostly been using it as my general purpose heat sinked portable, except it's much cheaper than most heat sinked portables I've seen.  This laser has been rock solid stable, and the driver is...

    Green Pointer from OLike?

I ordered an 80-100mw module from O-Like around the 1st or so...right after the group buy ran out and there were no more 60 dollar units. Suxie emailed me and apologized for the slight delay in shipping without me even having to bother her about it. When my module arrives I am planning on...

    BUYERS BEWARE!

Being relatively new to the Laser Pointer Forum, I am not necessarily completely hip to its politics.  This being the case, upon digesting the acrimony surrounding the Jake21 buy, I was somewhat frightened away from trying to join in to future GB's.  This was in spite of the fact that I had just...

    My first PHR build.

Larry, Thank you for reminding me of the potential instability of the breadboard.  Actually I've been worrying about it more or less constantly any time I have to move something like the heatsink (containing the laser) around with its attached leads.  I have some copper clad Radio Shack...

Melles Griot Helium Neon Tube extraction.

Well, I've had that <5mw Melles Griot for about 3 years or so, and while I used it every now and then, it hasn't seen regular use.  I figured it might be more fun for me uncovered...also, I wanted to try to ionize the gas via an external e-field, such as that of one of my tesla coils (another...

Melles Griot Helium Neon Tube extraction.

Dave, Thank you, then you really understand the frustration I felt. Mine had a bunch of small dots, like little silicone divots on top of the "host", with soft rubber or plastic cushions that anchored the glass head in there surprising tightly. The first dremmel cut was painstakingly tedius...

Melles Griot Helium Neon Tube extraction.

Here's the abuse I had to heap on that Melles Griot aluminum tube before it would yield the laser head.

Here's one that shows the weaker beam which actually makes it out of the rear, through the HR mirror:

Melles Griot Helium Neon Tube extraction.

After about an hour and a half of Dremmel cuts, prying with needle nose, plyers, and cussing, I finally got the tube out of my Melles Griot <5mw HeNe. This is a project I've been wanting to get around to for a long time...but I was afraid I wouldn't be able to pull off the removal without...

    My first PHR build.

Now that someone has finally posted again on my PHR-803t  thread, I can make an update without it being a double post. And Kage....Thanks for noticing I didn't blow it up (yet!). I still don't know the current I'm dumping into that diode, but don't really care at this point....its already...

    My first PHR build.

Yeah, I wanted to use the 1 ohm resistor technique, but with all the dozens of resistors I have in my drawer, I don't think I have a 1 ohm. I guess it's time to get a Digikey order ready, since I also need some 100ohm pots and all the Radio Shacks in my area are bad about keeping their parts...
