Game: Guess the mystery object !

Well if you don't know how are we supposed to guess? :( It looks like some kind of disk based machine.

Semi-common Objects That Contain Gas Lasers

Some old, old, old arcade games used laserdisc players that used HeNes. Old checkout barcode scanners used HeNes. Some of the handheld barcode scanners used very small HeNes. All I can think of for now. Edit: Those arcade games I mentioned. Only two of them actually used laserdisk players. (Two...

Man, if I only had a nickel for every photon I shot out of my laser....

Neat, never thought about it like that. +1 For creativity.

    Military grade laser?

It's nearly impossible to DIY a green gun sight, mainly because green lasers are for now DPSS, not direct diode. DPSS lasers need critical alignment and can't really stand up to recoil to well, especially not from as large a round as a .50 BMG. Legal reasons exist for why there is a 5mW limit...

4W Blue Diode Coming! Single Mode Too !!

I don't recall seeing a 750mW red mentioned at all actually...I recall a 750mW 'single mode' 445 diode being mentioned though.

    lightscribe dvd burner question

Lightscribe drives use a weak IR diode to do the 'lightscribe' thing. Only good diode is the red one.

    Whats In your Pockets?

Wallet with no money, a college business card thing and a school ID, left pocket has a well used and much loved PSP-1001 in the black foam sleeve they used to come with, some rubber bands, pair of headphones for some reason, right pocket has keys (house, workshop locker, some keys I don't need...

DX Driver $2.19 works great for LOC

If you're adventurous, yes. But it's still not worth it, a good 660nm coated lens (because these diodes aren't 650nm) can get you >300mW at ~500mA or a little less. Another thing to take into account is the point where the diodes don't do anything more than just get hotter. Take a look at the...

DX Driver $2.19 works great for LOC

I hope you typo'd 420mA, because 520mA is seriously pushing these diodes. Nice find though.

    Jayrob's Large Maglite Monster Kit

If you're using the aixiz acrylic you need to switch lenses fast. The acrylic starts to degrade beyond a few hundred milliwatts, and it will smoke and can get on the window of the 445 diode, which is bad. You'll see a nice power boost as well, though 1200mW is plenty much for a portable laser.

    Wtb: Host with the most

How are they useless? They make excellent diodes for fluorescing stuff at safe powers, plus they have a red diode in them as well, can be used at same time if wired right but the focusing for each is different.
