And here, for a laugh, I included my laser sighted rubberband gun that is rigged by a touch switch I made on the trigger.  And do you see the gun laser?  It was $2 at the swap-meet and has a revolvoing shape projector that shoots out a happy face, hearts, butterfly, moon and stars, and dot.

Re: So did I just waste some coin on this red lase You could use a red uncollimated laser diode by itself which will make for a very bright led and because it's not focused it would pose no threat.

The line through the dot is normal.  And the way you can easily tell if the abnormaly is on the lens or the LD is by simply turning the focusing lens while it's on and if you see the "shape" turn too then it's on the lens, but if it stays, then it's the diode.   You didn't use the driver from...
