Anyone have an idea what this is?

It looks like a mirror/lens assembly, held in some kind of enclosure or mount. The mirror side has a pinhole in it you can see if you zoom in. The other artifacts on the mirror are reflections from my camera. The lens side appears to have some kind of AR coating, maybe? The whole assembly...

(EDIT. New pics)Lot of requests for machining lately...

Re: Lot of requests for machining lately... Thanks everyone for the kind words. All of you have nothing to worry about on the subject of me letting myself get overloaded. You see...I already have a job, and I get paid well. I'm not looking for another one. What I'm offering here is strictly...

(EDIT. New pics)Lot of requests for machining lately...

I just setup a small shop. I don't have a mill yet, only a lathe. Mill is coming soon. I've been working my way up the not-so-steep learning curve (for me anyway, I'm a natural at anything to do with hands-on creation of pretty much anything). I'm no Ehgemus, but I believe I can hold my own. I...

    Help with laser build

No, the extra cells voltage would just be turned into heat in the regulator. A linear driver NEEDS two cells in series to drive an M140. If you need more runtime, you'll need a 2s2p cell configuration. -G (Oops...was typing this as diachi posted his)

Hmm...satellite relay now for quantum bits

https://www.sciencenews.org/article/quantum-weirdness-survives-space-travel They used the observatory's green laser to track the relay satellite. Transmitted some qbits on a 5,000 km ride and they returned with no change in quantum state. -G

Anyone Willing to Broker a Deal between OVNI and TaterMay?

I feel y'all. The time is fast approaching for me, as well. Mom's had several minor strokes over the last couple years, and two big ones a few months ago. I do feel ya. G

Broken Charger outputted 1.5V to various Lithium cells

What has worked for me in the recent past is to hook the low-v cell up in parallel to a known good, fully charged cell for a minute or so at a time. Hook the cells up for a minute, then try the low-v cell on the charger. If it starts, let it charge. If it doesn't repeat the hook up and try...

ebay r-lsales sending dud Li-ion batteries to customers.

What I have done in the past (not recommended!) is to parallel the bad cell with a fully charged cell for a few minutes at a time, until the charger will accept it. It usually works, but the recovered cell will sometimes not have a very long life. -G

How did you get hooked on lasers?

It was a cold October night a few years ago...in a forest in south Texas (Texas Ren Fest, to be exact). We were sitting in camp shortly after sundown, gettin' bent. Then, just down the way from us, the night exploded in an intense pillar of coherent blue light that streaked toward the heavens! I...

Techhood, anyone have experienced with them?

Search my posts. I had a problem once with Techhood. Robinson came through and made it BEYOND right. An error was made with some 805t diodes. I was shipped the wrong item by mistake. They immediately stepped up and reshipped my diodes, and Robinson threw in a couple of drivers on top of...

    Another new Texan

Welcome to the forums TrekFan! You'll find many knowledgeable folks here. In subjects ranging from electronics, to optics, to the FDA regulations concerning lasers. You'd do yourself a favor by using the white search bar at the bottom of the page rather that the menu search at the top to...

    Harvesting prisms major PITA

That looks like a WWII era tank periscope. If so, yeah it'd be pretty old. Solid, too, I'm bettin'. Just looking at that thing I get a PITA, I can't imagine tryin' to take it apart! -G

Does anyone know the best blue laser diode at 100-500mw?

An A140 would live a long time at 500 mW. I'll leave it up to you to find one, it's not hard to do.

Diamond laser power increases 20 fold

Mmmm...I see. You mouth off on a subject you know nothing about, rather than look something up on it and bringing something worth saying to the table. Then you resort to name-calling? Very nice...expected, even. Piss me off? Not even close...you don't have the power to achieve that. I just...

    6000mW laser driver

There exists a driver that will do 6 amps, but you ain't gonna drive it with any 9 volt battery. They don't have the guts to pump that kind of power. -G

Well lets see...Nd:YAG won't do the 12xx nm that this diamond laser does, for starters. And also....IT'S A FREAKIN' DIAMOND! Diamond laser power increases 20 fold

Interesting...I didn't even know a diamond laser was possible. They concentrate and polarize the light in/with the diamond. Amazing...and now it'll cut steel. Diamond Lasers 20 Times More Powerful Than Ever Before | IFLScience Enjoy -G
