The very first nuclear weapon the U.S. detonated. Oppenheimer named the project "Trinity". The device was called "Gadget". The detonation was equal to approximately 44 million pounds, or 22 kilotons, of TNT. I thought it was kind of funny the device was called Gadget! Gadget atop tower with...

Ok...who tried to stick a laser diode in...

C'mon now, Curtis. You should know by now that you don't "earth" a laser with a rock. You need a Ground Screw for that!🤣

Who tried to stick an LD in this rock? You know very well rock is not a good thermal conductor! https://spiritegg.com/enigmalith-100000-year-old-electrical-component-found-embedded-stone/

    Lockheed's new 60kW laser system

MMmMmm...Raytheon. I do alot of work in one of their local warehouses. The place is usually full of Paveway bodies. And right now there are two complete radomes from some jet fighter or another, on test stands. Also lots and lots of missle circuit boards and other little fiddly gadgets that I...

    Resurrection of a nice host..

You just hang tight then, FinMan. I finally got my mill, and I've been practicing. As soon as I get my dirty little hands on a rotary table, that BigAss Fin™ host I designed in SketchUp will see the light of day...or, the light of a laser, as the case may be. And I'll make it to fit...

    Lockheed's new 60kW laser system

Yeah...There are many better uses for the money, and I didn't mean for this to turn a into a political discussion ...but.....but......but........SIXTY THOUSAND WATTS! Even their test run last month shattered the previous record at a whopping 58 kW. :lasergun:

    Need a little electronics assistance...

Yeah, I thought about that, as well. Problem is, it's from a pretty large Chinese company and the truth is I'd probably have better luck just gruntin'' real hard and shittin' one myself than I would trying to get ahold of someone who actually knows what a resistor is. Good advice in most...

    Need a little electronics assistance...

Any of you SMD heads out there care to make an educated guess as to the value of R1? I can't see with my magnifier what I can see now that I shot this macro. It looks like the burned resistor has a 2, then a burned out number, then either a 4 or a 9. Anyone care to extrapolate from the rest of...

Filling laser optics with nitrogen gas

That's probably gonna be your best bet to dry the air inside the optics cavity. You'd definitely need to reassemble it without opening the bag, too. -G

Wow...nice shots for just a cam. How 'bout some tiny stuff to go along with those massive shots. [/IMG] And a laser emitter just for the hell of it. [/IMG]

    Does this A140 look fractured?

Thanks for the input, Ben. I was thinking thermal damage, too. As in a start in freezing temps. That's the only thing I can think of that may have caused it. Especially the way the fracture propagates straight back from the conductor junctions. I'd try to get a pic of an undamaged A140, but...

    Does this A140 look fractured?

Re: Does this M140 look fractured? Oh...sorry Lifetime, you are correct, it is an A140. I had forgotten what I had in that particular host and didn't even pay any attention to the bond wires. BobMc, I couldn't believe how well the macro lens worked, either. The fish-eye and wide-angle...not so...

    Does this A140 look fractured?

I took these macros with my Droid Ultra. My wife got me a set of lenses from the dollar store for 5 bucks. I was impressed, to say the least. The face of this emitter appears to be fractured, and it's output has dimmed significantly. Could this happen from a freezing cold start? The fracture...

A new one-off from Gadget Labs...

I just finished this one a week or two ago. I also started doing powder coat, in case anyone is in need of it. This host was my first attempt at mixing colors. They didn't mix like I thought they would in the melt, but it turned out to be an interesting effect none the less. Looks green from a...

confused by laser watt and maxium current

I posted this before, but I can't find it. This is a simple layout of a laser and a simple explanation... Power source--driver--diode--filters/lenses--beam Everything to the left of the diode is ELECTRICAL POWER. Everything including, and to the right of, the diode is OPTICAL POWER. There are...
