What's the best compromise of higher visibility of the beam and burning capabilities? Well, the greater the power, the better the both. But if you mean you want the lowest output laser that you can both visibly see the beam and burn stuff, I'd go with a 50mW green focusable laser, or a 100mW...

Higher mW and lower divergence guarantees for longer range as opposed to the same wavelength laser with less mW and a higher divergence.

I'd be lying if I said I never did this...

Yea, I think this forum needs some more complete newbie kits too (<$75). Something that includes the host, driver, heatsink, diode, etc. all in one, without asking you "if you need this, here it is! Or you could upgrade to this! Or this!" Something straight forward, with simple directions also...

Greens are far brighter, though a bit more expensive. A 50mW greenie would be easier to see at night than a 200mW red. I think the extra cash is worth it!

There are many people who are happy with their WL products, agreed, but O-like still has greater customer satisfaction (in general). Right now, if he were to order the S1 Sonar Lunar, he's 99.9% likely NOT to receive it in less than one week because, from what I've seen, NO ONE has received one...
