I've found dollar store red pointers to be pretty much impervious to any kind of damage from dropping. Greens on the other hand I generally even put down on a table gently because I think of them as delicate devices.

Is that rotating beam in the first video due to the refresh rate of the camera syncing with the beam rotation speed? It makes for a very interesting effect. Very nice projector too, it looks like a maze of wires inside.

If those O-like glasses are anything like their red laser glasses, they wont block very much of it at all. I would suggest you stick to a reputable brand for safety glasses since you can't really afford to cheap out on those with IR. I hear OEM makes some top notch glasses in many different...

If these actually had optics in them to combine the beams like some of the custom modifications on this forum this would be 100x cooler :( unfortunately I don't really see the point of just cramming 2 separate modules next to each other.

Are you sure you don't mean a cd/dvd drive? Hard drives do not use optical mediums to store data so they do not have laser diodes in them. You can try searching on the forum for one of the various photo/video guides that members here have posted detailing the removal process from cd/dvd drive sleds.
