$20? I spent $275 on my first big laser (granted, I'm 16 and got a 1.2W one with some upgrades and glasses), but $20 is way too little, especially since you need glasses. Raise it to $60 at least, maybe more if you want more power or better goggles.

Wait, I just realized exactly how young 7 is-- it's most likely a very bad idea to give even a 1mw to anyone under 10. If you must get he/she one, then PLEASE don't get something more powerful than a 1mw red.

Get your kid a 1mw red pointer, anything more powerful shouldn't be used by anyone under 12 (and mature).

A build from Yob or Survival is more than 5 times that much power, and it's a LOT more dangerous. I'm talking about powers that, just a few years ago, were impossible to get from a single diode. A "5mw" from DX is a great starting laser, only $10 and a little overspec (but fairly safe as long as it's not shone in someone eyes or at cars/plane). If this is your first laser (you've never owned a laser before), than just get a 5mw, and take it from there. If you want a visible beam at...

Look in the B/S/T section of this forum or Google it and try to find a reputable supplier. Keep in mind extreme caution and safety glasses would have to used at all times when using said laser :).

From the 2 videos of it I saw, I wouldn't think it's 500 mw... Maybe 200-400mw. Is it focusable? If not, then it's pretty much worthless for burning.
