Got around to uploading my pictures, here's the de-canned 9mm 1W 808nm laser for those who are curious: First two pictures were taken with a 450D and 60mm macro, second two were taken with the 55-250mm zoomed in and the 18-55mm kit lens reversed and taped onto the end.

How about this: It can be done - White laser pointer I don't think you'd get much power from it, but it looks like it can make the 7 colors (and you might be able to make many more perceived colors by doing PWM mixing of the 3 lasers).
