You wouldn't want to use that driver in it's default configuration for a 780nm diode. You most likely needed to change R2 to a higher value as your 780nm diode runs <200ma (I've been running my 52x CD-R 780nm diodes at no more than 175ma as I've had trouble after that point).

Today is a great day. My son was born today at 8:04am, healthy, weighing 8lbs 4oz. Got home and the Super Beast had arrived; it looks like a good build quality for the price and I'd bet that the output is >15mw. I'll give a review of both and post some pics when I get a minute :yh:
