You get a decent rep(etition) rate going and many many joules of pulse peak green is enough to AVERAGE several watts. I doubt you'll find many DPSS lasers over about 8 watts that use diode pumps, not to say they don't exist but it's not the common way to do it at that power.

At night. During the daytime peak visibility is 555nm. Your eyes have different types of cells, rods and cones. I forget which is which, but one is sensitive to black and white whereas there are 3 types of the other for red, green and blue. The colour ones are not nearly as sensitive as black...
