thebigal; this question has been beaten to death already. in short; minimag = no regulation circuit = very very short life for laser diode dorcy jr./ riverrock / MXDL / surefire = REGULATED circuitry = far, far, far, better results. conclusion = friends dont let friends use minimag ::)

unfortunately soldering seems to be the only fix for this. id suggest getting a really sharp/fine point soldering tip and some 32+ guage solder . ask a buddy to hold a magnifying glass up for you, and you should be pretty successful. also make sure to anchor your hands by resting them on the...

no i dont; i guess your right about the price though. just seemed to me that $10 for a 20mm peice of ALUMINUM is crazy :o i talked with the owner of the company about a larger run of these heatsinks; and he offered to go ahead with it. how many people here would be interested in these?

lookie lookie :) my freshly machined dorcy JR heat syncs! 11.8mm ID 20.8mm OD 11mm thickness. sorry for those with dialup :(

with a maglight; as you saw in kipkay's instructable video; the LD is hooked up DIRECTLY to the batt's. minimag's have no regulation built in. you can hook up a LD to the minimag directly, but its not going to last long at all... remember that. about DDL's circuit; looking at my mag right now...
