    Nanometer uses.

You're welcome. I forgot I had Beam selected which came out to 1.7W @ 450nm to be the same brightness as 200mW @ 520nm. If you select Dot, the amount of 450nm power needed is over 3W.

    Nanometer uses.

Brightness and ability to burn don't necessarily go hand in hand due to the eye's different sensitivities to color. On this website you can compare brightness of both the beam and dot for any power/color combo. If you want to see how much power to equal the brightness of another color, enter...

If I bought a CNC Lathe, would you guys want custom hosts of your own design?

Thanks. I had not looked into those. And I would like to engrave or otherwise put precision labeling on it. Another criteria for me is the availability of good SW. I don't think I'll make a project trying to do SW too. Would rather buy it.

If I bought a CNC Lathe, would you guys want custom hosts of your own design?

I'm accustomed to Eghemus' pricing which runs roughly $90-$120. Plus I've been meaning to learn some CAD as I'd like to start making custom enclosures for electronic projects. Buy a CNC router, 3D printer, something like that. I'm at the point where making the enclosure is taking more time...

Poll: Get rid of my lasers?

I voted DPSS. I'm with Isaac on the 'lecture' message because getting the most out of school while you're in school pays big dividends for your future. I don't believe you will ever regret really giving it your absolute best while in school (time and effort) and putting everything else you can...

    Need some explanations.

Can you please point me to the diode you're interested in and remind me how much optical power you want? I'm not following this thread very well. Then I'll try and answer each of your questions one by one. EDIT: I'll answer based on this diode on eBay: 405nm 50mw CW Violet/Blue Laser Diode LD...

    Need some explanations.

Actually, there are a lot of blue laser diodes that are able to produce 1W of optical power. It doesn't have to say "1W" in the name of the diode. All it has to say is it can produce > 1W. For example, I pulled these pictures from DTR's website and highlighted where to look for current...

LED Driver Switching Frequency. The Higher the better?

Well I just couldn't decide which one to pick  soooo ... and lastly  EDIT: One more because that's kind of how I reacted at first ...

LED Driver Switching Frequency. The Higher the better?

Switching supplies/drivers generate more noise than linear drivers but, as you point out, are much more efficient generating less heat. Switching noise might not be a problem depending on your application. If you're going to modulate, worth looking into, IMO.

    got my laser!!!!

Re: Being resolved I'd like to see SciFi fix this tracking number problem. I would buy more stuff. I have money to buy more stuff. I like lasers. Technology continues to deliver higher and higher power lasers. I want more power, arr, arr, arr ... So instead of a guarantee that "it will...

Rats - Blew My Ocarlo, What Should I Replace it With?

At the risk of getting scolded for double-posting, I wasn't sure if 'editing' my last post would cause this to appear as new so here goes. I tested the driver. It's an SXD built by Lazeerer according to the silk screen. Eghemus bought it from DTR at my request. My understanding is this a...
  17. OVNI

    Need some explanations.

I hope this doesn't add to your confusion ... As Cyp explained, laser diodes operate by using constant current sources (=drivers). To get the optical power you want, you must set/build the driver to deliver an amount of current that produces the desired optical power. To find out how much...

    got my laser!!!!

Re: Scifi laser issues, is this normal? Getting multiple bad tracking numbers is normal for SciFi based on my experience and reading feedback here. If you're OK with that, you'll eventually get very good quality laser at a competitive price but make sure you stay on top of them. Personally...
