If the air is dusty enough even a 5mw red laser will have a visible beam, and a bright enough laser will have a visible beam no matter what the wavelength, just due to reflections off of dust (or smog).

If it will burn black tape then the reflections can burn the back of your eyes. This is always true.

I doubt any one of those three points would be significant by itself, but combined I think it probably crosses the line. I'll put it this way: I wouldn't want to be viewing these forums in a public place and have someone look over my shoulder and see that on my screen.

A genuine 5mw green will have a visible beam on a dark night if there's a touch of fog or dust in the air. Yours sounds well overspec. Personally, I find lasers that bright to be un-useful. If I were you I would skip the glasses and just get an actual 5mw greenie.
