    new to lasers...

In addition, a cutting laser would make an unsafe work environment for anyone who happened to be in the same room with the laser, unless you implement the proper safety precautions. A cutting laser is a class 4 laser, in order to comply with regulations and be safe you must post warnings around...

    Hello. I'm a noob lol!

Hi thursday, and welcome to the forum. It's funny, we were just talking about that here.

    New "laser armour" for pilots

I highly doubt this. We already have the tech for pioletless planes if we chose to use it. The proliferation of the kind of online tracking that would have been unspeakable 5 years ago has convinced me that, given a little time, the public can be convinced to embrace any questionable technology...

Infrared Lasers: Do They All Burn?

I still haven't finished my homework from last term. It looks like I'm not going to have any time off at all this break. Maybe I spend too much time on message boards and too little doing my work. Disturbing thought.

    Biological reasons for color perception

Hold your horses qume. I'm not attacking your current method, and I'm certainly not attacking you. Please keep that in mind when I say this: I think you are too familiar with the watt as a unit of measurement to see its awkwardness for anyone who has not spent at least a month getting used to...

    Biological reasons for color perception

If that's the case than mw to describe brightness is like using decibels to describe how fast the car goes.. I just think there is a massive need for a more descriptive scale of laser brightness. Maybe I'll make one up.

Always refuse the body scan: If they want to look at your privates so badly make them wear gloves to do it.

    Mosquito Laser Defense System

There are defiantly some cool vids about this... Here is a TED talk on it. (If you're not interested in diseases, you can skip the first half.)

    Biological reasons for color perception

:shhh: It's not the beam characteristics that make it different, it's the chromacompat=yes flag, which makes it use a different table than the one in the link. here is your 115 w/o chromacompat The chromacompat table seems to be closer to reality, but there is no link to it. Both of them are...

    Cool dual direction green laser....

Yeah, but at least the sith has a cool looking host, that host looks like a cheap remote control!

    Biological reasons for color perception

Yeah, I noticed that it only goes up to 680 as well.. but I figured a 0.44% difference wasn't enough to worry about. The problem I have is that I own these two lasers: Green 5mw and Blue 25mw and in reality they are approximately equal with the blue being perhaps slightly brighter.

    Green VS 445 really??

I just tried that and it does predict a brighter 450nm However, there is something pretty major going on here. When I use actual lasers this appears approximately equal, with the blue perhaps being brighter.

Infrared Lasers: Do They All Burn?

The economics of scale are working for you here. If you had to get someone to build you a digital camera using a well equipped garage setup it would cost tens of thousands of dollars. Look at this: How I built a toaster from scratch. We live in a world where, in most cases, the atom of...

    Biological reasons for color perception

Thanks for that madmac. That was the site I was looking at before, and it still doesn't show a way to calculate Vλ. And now that I take a closer look at that table that rhd uses I can see that it is basically a table of different values of Vλ at different wavelengths. So I guess that may answer...

    Green VS 445 really??

Hmm.. it appears, after further research, that the data table he used is a standard that has been in effect since 1924. So now I'm back to not knowing why it appears to be off for 450nm. All I know is that it is.

    Biological reasons for color perception

Yes, but people still ask. If we measured more light sources in lumens the world would be a (slightly) better place. For instance: vehicle headlights. If the maximum output was in lumens rather than watts then people couldn't play with the color and blind other drivers. Also, lightbulbs. If...

    Biological reasons for color perception

It seems to me to be the other way around. There are a lot of questions that people ask that could be answered much more easily in lumens than mw. For instance, when someone says "I want a laser that goes further than my 200mw green,". Wouldn't it be simpler to just say "that's 7000 lumens, so...

Infrared Lasers: Do They All Burn?

I am not sure what you want me to do. I haven't double posted, and I have no control over other people's posts. Do you suggest that I delete my original pictures? I don't think I will be doing that. I am sorry about the undesirable elements, Brittany, they have been bothering me as well, and...

Ohh yeah? Why do you consider a lumen inappropriate?
