    Time Tunnel Safety and creation

Any suggestions as far as a focusable (or nonfocusable) 50mW or less continuous use module (as in one that could be left on for hours)? Green would probably look the coolest at the best price but I'd be open to suggestions for any module that would work.

    Time Tunnel Safety and creation

I really appreciate the replies but I'm afraid to an "average Joe" like me it's not clear if a 200mW "time tunnel" is a potential hazard or not... would it be a sure thing if I used under 50mW or under 5mW for example?

    Time Tunnel Safety and creation

Is viewing a 'time tunnel' effect reflected off fog safe at 150mW-200mW? I was thinking of a Halloween effect. I see laser light show modules are often in this range and are obviously for long-term viewing. What do I need to know to keep everyone safe? I have viewed many of the threads and...

Laser pros- drop by a sec

That's great info, perhaps a little more than I am prepared to work out for, as you mention , a ballpark figure which we can pretty much tell by the color but useful nonetheless. I am considering purchasing diffraction gratings and maybe a fog machine for effect-style fun. I think it would be...

I'm surprised at what an active, helpful, vibrant community you folks have built for yourselves here. Thanks for everything. I have learned a lot from this thread and I appreciate everyone taking the time to respond. I will try and post some photos and a review about my Rayfoss laser on a...

A properly filtered green laser at 150mW+ doesn't seem possible for the $60 or so I paid... WOW a seismograph, AWESOME idea! I think you just won the prize for most useful application of a laser and magnets. Great for the apocalypse when all the seismographs will have been swallowed up or...

The 4 safety rating on these adequate? Hmmm, for a do-all item like that I think I might just go for it! Thank you!

Laser pros- drop by a sec

I appreciate the chance to digress! Back to the main spirit of the thread, is there a cheap way to check output and wavelength(s) of lasers or is that another big purchase? I'm thinking anything at Radio Shack or something? I suppose a decent sized university would probably have something ... we...

Laser pros- drop by a sec

Is KJ the ones that sell the rubber coated ones? I think I may get them anyway because it seems like a big problem with the magnets is the chipping that occurs on the finish and the rubber ones supposedly are almost indestructible. Also, the ferrofluid seems like something every science-toy geek...

Laser pros- drop by a sec

LOL seriously? You think I started this elaborate thread to promote a 10,000+ sale Ebay guy? I assure you it's only in the name of saving perhaps like minded science toy geeks a few hours of research. I'm insulted you would suggest otherwise.:tsk:

Laser pros- drop by a sec

Off topic but I just did the research- I apologize again that this isn't about lasers but many of the folks here seem like they might enjoy another cool science toy- ebay seller "magnet4less" or magnet4less.com has tons of sales with a great reputation and very cheap n52 rare earth magnets...

Laser pros- drop by a sec

I understand what you are saying, however my budget is under $100 as this is just a passing interest for me. While the thought of owning a laser that even 10 years ago... and CERTAINLY 20 years ago would have cost $100,000 makes me want one, next month I'm sure I'll want to explore some other...

Laser pros- drop by a sec

I would like something powerful enough to burn- I have been emailing back and forth with the nice folks over at Rayfoss and they told me they hand picked one of the www.rayfoss.com laser/led combo lights for me advertised at 150mW but they wrote that the one they hand picked for me was 206mW...

Laser pros- drop by a sec

heh nice. The Ledshoppe 50mW, got it... it's more like 10mW. Blechh. I emailed them 3 times over the past week about it -politely- and got zero response. The experiments in question I want to design would be to study the nature of light using the laser. Not really sure what I want to do yet...

Laser pros- drop by a sec

Thanks. I'm trying to be a good noob , doing all my HW and being respectful before asking questions in Faq's and on other threads but I think we can all relate to being excited about something new and not wanting to spend literally DAYS mining every scrap of data from the forums. That being...

Laser pros- drop by a sec

I just want the laser to do some amateur experiments... the same reason I hawked ebay until I could find myself a good microscope ( I paid $500 for a Nikon Smz-2t worth close to $8k new woohoo!)... I will proceed carfeully, that's for sure. I'm scared for people that are less inclined to be...

Laser pros- drop by a sec

great! Thanks... so I suppose that the filter is one of those blue things pictured on the white background and that 808 and 1064 nm is ideal for the green laser IR blocking? Any reason anyone can think of that you couldn't make it removable? Perhaps mount it on something on the end and remove...

Laser pros- drop by a sec

Great point, I wasn't sure if it was that easy- can anyone recommend an IR filter? Also, I didn't mean any disrespect to anyone, I'm just shocked at the ease at which one can inadvertently harm themselves, others, or their pet cats chasing laser dots. You would think that for the price of this...

Laser pros- drop by a sec

WOW - thanks for all the info- I really can't afford a pair of $100 glasses... I think I am going to just stick the pointer in a drawer when I get it. Sorry guys but from many of the responses I've seen on this board to various threads, the 150mW unfiltered unit that I was able to purchase -...

Laser pros- drop by a sec

I have been reading the threads here for 3 days and yet even I can say with conviction I am all stocked up for life on the "your eyes aren't worth X dollars" comments... perhaps the better way to put it is that it's not worth the cost of the laser+$200 glasses to experiment with the laser. I...
