    Dragon Lasers 1W Spartan

Cool. I'm really curious if Dragon can pull off a beam expander or if one can be fitted in-housing as suggested by twhite. I'm not sure how it can be done with a bar shaped beam. My biggest gripe with all 445's is the poor divergence. The whole idea of a laser is a narrow, coherent...

Care and feeding of your Arctic beast

Akaalis, JuruWalter. Welcome to the forum to both of you. As newcomers, forum etiquette involves going the the Welcome thread and introducing yourselves to the community. Also you should read the Rules thread if you haven't already. Your best asset here is the search function. Experienced...

    Dragon Lasers 1W Spartan

The Spartan is a fine laser and I'm glad you like yours. How about a side by side comparison? You mentioned host. Could they pick a more bland host for the Spartan? The Arctic host not only looks good but it is functional. The Arctic will run two hours continuous with a Tenergy battery...

    Dragon Lasers 1W Spartan

Nah, It was just a poke at the earlier "built to perfection" comment for the Spartan.

    Don't unscrew the module.:eg:

    Dragon Lasers 1W Spartan

My apologies twhite. The pics weren't for you. I assume you knew the basics. They are for the ones that don't understand optics and divergence, posting on or reading this thread. Nothing strange in my theory. I have stated that my divergence is worse with the 405-G-1, nearly twice as bad...

    Dragon Lasers 1W Spartan

With several members obtaining 2W+ with the 445 diode, I don't remember seeing any figures on divergence of those beasts. They should be able to prove or disprove your theory. Anyone? I believe the divergence difference is all in the optics of the two lasers. This would be typical of a...

    Dragon Lasers 1W Spartan

In post #111 in this thread someone posted a pic of a 400mW Spartan lens. It was single element. Haven't heard if the 1W is different.

Care and feeding of your Arctic beast

Please read both my guides completely. There should be enough info there. If you are still confused, and you don't know squat about dismantling things, don't mess with it. Find someone who can or leave it alone. You would be safer modifying the low power training lens for burning. The...

    Dragon Lasers 1W Spartan

Try measuring at a distance of at least 100 yards/meters and see if you are still getting 2 mRad. I'm certain you wont even be close.

And why the Spartan has an mRad of 3.50+

Care and feeding of your Arctic beast

No, the lens can be unscrewed from the module. You need to clean off the epoxy seal with a pick first. If necessary, you may have to hold the module steady while you remove the lens. The module can be held with needle nose pliers. If you are not clear on the procedure, you shouldn't try it...

Care and feeding of your Arctic beast

Don't know if the new Arctics have a longer wire. Why would you remove the module?

FAA: Laser incidents soar, threaten planes

I'm confused at what power level causes blindness. According to the article about the ZM-87: "Power output: 15 mW, 5 pulses per second, at two wavelengths." 15 mW?! Blinding distance of almost 2 miles! How can that be? If that's all it takes, there should be a lot of blind people from all...

    Super Beast Green

Read my sig. It doesn't always fail. ;)

    Super Beast Green

Tried to boost the power of the original Super Beast by pot mod. Just turned it very slightly, less than 1/8 turn. Killed it. Turning back to original setting had no effect. I puts out a faint green now, couple of mW. :(

    Super Beast Green

Yeah, I got one. Tested a steady 80mW (2 min run time) with a nice beam, better than the Super Beast I bought. Comes in a nice spring loaded case. No pics now, will post them later. I like it better than the Super Beast. Also got the standard Green pointer. Puts out 30mW.

Introducing Radiant Electronics and the Radiant Alpha Power Meter

Didn't see the availability on the 2nd. I appreciate your offer to make repairs if needed. With the original pot, the meter pretty much stayed at .000, but didn't seem to change when turned. With the new pot, it's not much different, turning the pot has very little effect. Since it still...

Introducing Radiant Electronics and the Radiant Alpha Power Meter

Was 11-21 the last time they were available? Haven't seen anything since then. By the way, I updated the adjustment pot. Didn't seem to make much difference.

weird "square" over beam of arctic

does it look like this?: I think that is because the diode is square and some light is reflecting off it: (Image from DTR)
