Meh, it's been covered hundreds of times before, we don't need a practical reason. We have the choice as to what we spend out money on, and if we happen to find powerful light concentrated into thin beams fascinating, then what makes our hobby any different from someone who collects coins, or...

I don't see what you're asking... Is it which one to buy, or which one is easiest to mount a laser on? 200mW is a little too powerful for a sight by the way.

Post a picture of all of the optics if you can, we should be able to tell.

I reckon there would be some nice optics and mirrors in there too. Might be worth a complete teardown.

Things, how big is that laser head? The beam seems to be quite large at the aperture.

I got it working with a green. 150mw, focused to infinity, with mouse optical sensor lens right in front, gave me a nice focal point about 2mm away from the lens. I couldn't get it to stay there for more than a few seconds though.

According to "http://laserpointerforums.com/f52/laserbee-120mw-laser-power-sensor-37934.html" There are plans to release a meter that detects 405nm light. No idea on a date though, you'll have to press him for that. As for the 200mw requirement, ND filters have been suggested in the past.

Lithium batteries can easily put out a few amps of current, unless you're using a very powerful laser, that shouldn't be the issue. Performance in the capacity category on the other hand....

Out of curiosity, is there any problem with just leaving the laser on continuously, and placing an LCD in front of the beam. It would fix the modulation issues with green... I have a project planned out for a mircocontroller based spirograph, with some modulation capabilities, I was thinking of...

My first laser died last night. :( O-like 30mw in a rayfoss host, a friend dropped it, the KTP fell off the end, it's rattling around inside now. Lens screw is epoxied in place. It'll only be $25 to replace (if I can get that bloody press fitted module out) but sentimental value.
