    Soldering gun

There's nothing wrong with flux cored. Flux is more like a heat-activated acid, it removes the oxide coating and other crap from the materials you're bonding with to ensure a good connection. If you're into electronics, flux is an absolute must. I like the pine-based tacky stuff. You are meant...

Problem is that drlava's correction amp is only single ended.

Another common method is to tie x- and y- to ground, then attach negative DAC outputs to that ground.

    500 mw green??

@DJNY I saw the $102 current bid too. It was at 15 bids when it originally passed $300, now it's back at 9 bids.

powering a green module off a higher voltage lm317

    No, wouldn't work at all.

powering a green module off a higher voltage lm317

No, nothing like it. If you were to desolder the driver and power the diode straight from a DDL driver, that could work, but what you want is this: Ignore the variable nature of R2, set resistors are fine.

powering a green module off a higher voltage lm317

A lm317 regulator is an adjustable regulator, it requires resistors to set the output voltage...

    Disassembly and reassembly?

Yes, rotation along the beam path's axis is vital to the final green light output.

How Do You Respond To The Money Question?

@aryntha Oh god yes, comparing it to their car spendings is the best.

How Do You Respond To The Money Question?

Whenever someone that I vaguely know asks me, I just counter it with their own hobby. When a someone starts proclaiming they could never buy a $300 laser, just say you could never buy a $300 guitar.

Learn From Mistakes That Can Happen To Anybody...

Re: Mistakes That Can Happen To Anybody... Thread about this? Not that I do it often, but I've done it once or twice accidentally with no effect. What happens to the diode?

    Soldering gun

I use a hakko 936. Benm mentioned it, it seems to be the same as a Aoyue 936. Well, Pb/Sn eutectic solder doesn't melt until around 360F, what are you using?

    Buying: Beam Dump

I just tried that with a stack of 10 utility blades (the snap off kind) You still get a bit of glare, but it seems to be from reflections off the very tip of the blade. But still, much less than a spot on a wall or a black surface. In particular, what razor blades were you referring to?

Out of curiosity, are the transistors on the flexmods isolated from each other? It's fine to use one heatsink, but silicone pads and plastic bolts or inserts are necessary.

    "Mini Hercules"

If you looked at the link that was posted, you'll see that it's a heatsink that's just slipped over the top of the laser, not a stand alone host. Nice job though, matches the handle well. Did it help at all with heatsinking?

    I love Rayfoss hosts.

It was a rayfoss module. Being my first laser (apart from a battery box and a 10mW o-like) I decided to just have it working when I got it. It's quite stable, I've modified it with a LDO negative voltage regulator, the module circuitry its getting a constant and very stable 3V input; and I get...
