    I know it's DANGEROUS, but...

It'll really be for short duty cylces, 10 seconds or less, for the most part. I could get the FlexDrive repaired for $12, but there's no guarantee that I won't break it again, making a diode, capacitor, and resistor the best option.

    I know it's DANGEROUS, but...

jayrob did: http://laserpointerforums.com/f50/check-out-my-286mw-tiny-titanium-key-chain-red-blu-ray-too-48640.html And I know it's usually not a good idea. I'm thinking about using a small capacitor and a resistor, then I'll get a slow-on effect. A 1N4001, a capacitor, and a resistor ought...

    LG GSA-4081B DVD Advice

Don't expect too much from a 2x/4x DVD burner diode, though.

    I know it's DANGEROUS, but...

So, I want to do jayrob's keychain build using the Lowe's flashlight and the AW 10280. I broke my FlexDrive. I know it's dangerous, but it shouldn't be too bad if I use a 10ohm resistor and a short duty cycle if I just connect my LPC diode directly to the battery, right? Or should I put in a...

Where can I get IR diodes, and how powerful of one should I get?

What I have is a DX 50mW green module (if I didn't say that explicitly) and it uses a 5.6mm diode, and I've no idea the probable repercussions of drilling it out for a 9mm.

Where can I get IR diodes, and how powerful of one should I get?

One of the links mentioned 10-11% conversion efficiency. My plan, right now, is to use the optics from the 50mW module I got from DX and just replace the LD. And I tried searching Google for IR diodes, but I didn't really find quite what I was looking for, at least not in the way I wanted it...

    o-like driver~open can Guide

BTW yes, it'll be a handheld, but I know where I can get small, surface-mount resistors, and I can either replace the 10ohm with a 2ohm, or just stack some 10ohm resistors right on top.

Where can I get IR diodes, and how powerful of one should I get?

Wow, 20% is decent? I was pretty sure I read somewhere that there were 80% efficient crystals available, but I don't actually know if I did, or where I even would've seen that. You'd think, at such low efficiency, companies might just invest in actually green LDs, but apparently not. Do you...

Where can I get IR diodes, and how powerful of one should I get?

I'm looking to make a greenie at least 100mW in power. Based on a *slightly* conservative estimate of the probable efficiency of decent- to good-quality crystals, about how powerful of an IR diode am I looking for, and where could I find one?

Sounds great! Now, where can I buy a nice-ish but cheap IR diode...

    o-like driver~open can Guide

I'm looking for a cheap option. If there's a way to do it, and I know what it is, I'm confident in my skills. And at 2/$5, I'd have to buy 8 before I'm even at the cost of a FlexDrive (including shipping for both).

    o-like driver~open can Guide

From your post, I was unable to extrapolate how to connect this when using a case-negative diode and host. Could you post a small diagram showing how to do this?

    New DX green module's optics

Good point. I think the CB could handle it, since it has a pot that I know is turned down, but I don't actually know if it can. And yeah, the optics alignment might be an issue.

    New DX green module's optics

So, instead of pot-modding, could I buy one of the new DX green modules and replace the IR diode with one designed for higher power? Or is there a risk with that, too, 'cause the circuit board and/or optics wasn't meant for higher powers? If that's really a risk, is it a high risk or low risk?

Have DMM, but no test load for my FlexDrive

Given the choice, me too. And, of course, I also broke part of it, so now I have to get it repaired. Do you happen to know, am I supposed to just send it to DrLava, or should I PM him first?

Have DMM, but no test load for my FlexDrive

Except, I already have solder on my FlexDrive, and I don't want to solder a test load to it, after all the soldering I've done already. I just hooked up a diode, and turned the pot, trying it at different places, until I found where it took the least time to light a match. Turned a little...

Lava Micro FlexDrive Driver (lavadrive2) fits pens

So, if I need one fixed, I just send it to you Dr Lava? Should I attach a note with any information, or anything?

Have DMM, but no test load for my FlexDrive

Good idea. I don't think I do, but I do have a 25 ohm rheostat, which ought yo work. Thanks.

Have DMM, but no test load for my FlexDrive

So, I have a FlexDrive, but I (temporarily) lost the free 1-ohm resistors I had. However, I have a DMM and I can measure the Pot. Can anyone tell me what resistance to look for, for the maximum current output? I have it in the 108-412mA range, and I'm powering a red from the LPC sled. The...

Cheap O-Like diode drivers; has anyone used them?

Anyone else have the cheap, $5 two-piece driver set working?
