Yay...Thanks Grn_n_TX for lettin me know... I just ordered one using my phones browser because I'm here in Oz and thats the only way I was able to place the order with DX.

Good point me_too_lazy... I think they think that, in general, this method of not laying out the price may get them more profit or give them a chance to pitch a sale but really I think they lose more business this way because people that get the shits from this (like me) will not even bother...

I've had no problem with DX up until about 3 days ago (and Im from Australia). I've got to orders in transit as well :-/ (my first orders with DX)... I can get on using that youhide.com link but it's slow and crap...I hope it's fixed soon - that is if it is to be fixed

Ok.. I tried a few different things. Firstly, voltage across the LD is >2.5V not 2.2v - I measured it wrong before. I changed the supply to a pretty fresh 9 volta. The current through the diode went up abit to 150mA but Vref of the LM317 dropped to 1V. But with the IR LD in the exact same setup...

Cap was taken from a circuit which hasn't been powered for 5 years. So cap ok. 3.9R series 100R pot. I just soldered two wires onto the IR diode and tested it. It works with the circuit. If i set the current to 200mA and connect the IR diode... The current stays at 200mA and V=2.15V. Source...

So I received my aixiz modules today and started working on making a LD burner (my first working one). I have already fried :-X an LD from a previous attempt by being reckless - so this time I was being extremely careful harvesting and constructing this one. Both LD's were out of a pioneer...

Thanks everyone for your help. I'm keen on the dorcy mini cause I kinda like the look of it and believe it's driver circuit would be somewhat more stable then a cheaper chinese torch. I've got friends all interested in these lasers now - I'll have to wait for them all to make up their minds on...

I'm in contact with the Australian Rep for Dorcy to see if/where these Dorcy torches (model #'s 41-4234 and 41-4262) are available he in Oz. I also just popped in to a BIG W store on my way home from work and they stock a few Dorcy torches but none looked suitable (cheapo looking).
