    Laser Projector for Speckle

Why can't this be done with a $5 halogen flood?

Can I use a Rechargeable 16340 in place of a Lithium CR123A Primary?

This really depends on the driver type. If it is a linear or buck driver, the extra voltage won't hurt anything. However, it is common to use a simple dropper resistor (not a constant current driver) in low power reds, because this is good enough, and is of course a lot cheaper. So 3.7V may...

Horizontal Polarization Using LCD Screen Sheets

Thank you for your contribution, even though that has precisely nothing to do with this thread. Not that I owe you any explanation, but I haven't been on the forums in a few weeks, and I'm just catching up.

    Heatsinking issue? Let me know

    1) Why? 18650s are far more energy dense than a 9V alkaline and are easily rechargeable. 2) if you meant "hot-swapping" new cells in for instant use, why have you not used 2x (or perhaps 3x, depending on driver specifications) AAs? 2xAAs has nearly twice the energy of a 9V and are about 1/4 the...

    Laser Projector for Speckle

Why are you looking for defects in plastic plates? Where I'm from, plastic plates aren't know for quality. Are you a manufacturer? Trying to throw lasers at a problem suggests to me you're not. So why do you care? How are you going to "analyze the temperature map"? How does this translate to a...

    Heatsinking issue? Let me know

Your power decisions are erratic and uninformed, as is your diagnosis. Give it a standard (charged!) 18650 cell as power like a normal person and report back.

driver solutions for casio A141 array as etcher/cutterer

I would recommend a balancing resistor on each string. 0.1ohm or something of that nature. I use that plus a standard 0-30V 0-10A lab supply. Of course, as stated by others, this would be useless as a cutter. However it does make a terrific sky cannon party trick.

CW Laser diode Drivers - What are the important properties?

Okay, but why didn't you measure the current with your DSO? That's the only one that matters and you've somehow forgotten it.

    Power supply min 110V 4A

We can help you a lot better if you actually tell us about your project rather than throwing specs into the wind.

Horizontal Polarization Using LCD Screen Sheets

Those aren't polarizing filters. Those are a type of fresnel lens used to diffuse the backlight. The polarizing filters are most often embedded in, or glued to, the glass LCD panel itself.

    Wavelength Correction. Does it Matter?

This depends on the topology and the quality. For an optical meter, the response is not uniform for each wavelength. A correction NEEDS to be applied for optical meters to read properly. For thermal meters, IF the surface coating is uniformly black to all colors, a correction factor would be...

taking apart an old WL Fusion?

The pushbutton can also fail. Verify the current draw is zero before digging into it. If it's drawing current (I believe it's supposed to be somewhere around 400-600mA), then she's proper hoopa jooped and there's really nothing you can do. I had a Duracell spew its guts in the 808nm CNI pen I...

How to test whether a driver is safe to use with a particular diode?

No. As evidenced by the lack of an inductor, this is a linear driver. With 5V in, you're going to be able to drive a 4V load at best reliably. I don't remember what those cyan diodes Vf is, but I'm pretty sure it's more than 4V. Increasing the voltage might either fix it, or it may pop an IC on...

    R, G & B Laser General

Do NOT point lasers at people. IF and ONLY if you've done the necessary maximum permissible exposure (MPE) calculations, written the proper attenuation maps, installed a shutter actuator, scan fail-safes, and several other interlocks can it be moderately safe to "audience scan". Audience...

    Project on water

No. Quit talking out of your ass, gazer. You're wrong and here's why. 1W of green is about 600 lumens. Over an area of 3x30 feet, this is about 10 square meters. You're going to lose 90% of power into the water, so you have maybe 60 lumens across 10 square meters. That's 6 lux. That's assuming...

Relationship between power and light intensity

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stevens%27s_power_law Or to simplify, increasing the power X times, means the perceived intensity is X^.5 times brighter. 4 times the power is twice the brightness for instance.

    Lasers for UFO Spotting

That's actually a good point. unidentified flying object is not the same as unidentifiable flying object, and it would be arrogant of anyone to assume they can rule out civilian aircraft. Especially given the safety concerns.

    HELP: 1W 525nm laser loosing power/brightness

The Mark 1 human eye is a very poor device. There are endless flaws that make it pretty useless as a reliable metering device. It certainly can't adequately measure laser power. Get a meter if you want to be sure, not that that solves anything either.

    265nm lasers for SARS-CoV-2

60 watts worth of UVC LEDs? For less than 5 figures? I call bullshit. Putting a frequency quadrupled YAG on a drone is an abjectly stupid way to protect yourself from disease. Just drop it until you learn more than buzz words. UVC itself is good for disinfecting, but the room cannot be...

    Optic damage threshold? 445nm

Ø is common notation for diameter, so that's how I would read it, yes. I was about to lecture you on omitting that superscript 2 and how that changes the meaning entirely, but I actually read the page and it seems Thorlabs is coming up with their own units here I guess. They justify it as...
