Paul is very knowledgeable about every thing laser. He is located in Austria, so even though his deutsch is slightly different its ok.

my advice to you is, if you are going to be in the hobby, then you need a power supply.

if you have an adjustable power supply you can test a diode by turning the voltage up very slowly( if 405nm 4-5v) and ampere very slowly also. you are going for a low operational/1 second or less light output. Shine on white paper wear protective amber/yellow lenses. The drive can be tested...

wow ps diodes.....cool! I feel like it's yesteryear. Those console diodes got a lot of us interested in power. Ya, and if you do not know what your doing- you will blind yourself in an instant. IR is nothing for the untrained to mess around with.
