Testing of the New 650nm/660nm 5W Diode.!

There's some talk of taking these babies handheld over in this thread: The Copper Behemoth! I think we're going to see another fabulous collaboration between LPF members to make this happen. If we can run a dual-diode handheld (with all the bells and whistles I might add) then I think you...

    "X-Load" A Custom 10A Testload All-In-One Unit

Amazing test load! I haven't been this impressed since I saw those DIY'ers make their own LPM's using those arduinos. Also going to be handing out the PCB spares when you're done? Too kind :P. +1 when I can. Playing devil's advocate again I see Cypa. Thank you for that, it's not a loved roll...

    638nm laser divergence issue

Sounds great! It's never a bad idea to run at lower currents. Longer diode life and keeping that wavelength where you want it. :D Post a picture of it in the forums somewhere, there's never enough reds to go around.

    The Copper Behemoth!

I vote for though 8 folded layers of a piece of paper then a small ball of steel wool behind it. If the paper ignites, the laser must shine until the paper has burned itself into the floor and isn't in the way, no moving anything!:eg: But usually the steel wool ignition is always fun to watch...

    638nm laser divergence issue

I'm going for a 450mW~ 638nm soon. I was debating on the single-mode Opnext diode but I'm more of a beams guy than a dot guy, and those multi-mode diodes make such purdy beamz. :D

    638nm laser divergence issue

Hence the part in my comment, "I'm assuming...". Yes, I'm well aware that they are different, but seeing as they are produced by the same manufacturer at the same wavelength, the only difference being the amount of output they can release, they MAY have some similarities. Also, this official...

Pushing the envelope of the duty/rest cycle'

I'd also like to add in addition to hak's original statements, that you should also be kind to your drivers. They are the single most important factor (well in my opinion at least) in keeping your diode alive. Heat sink them well and don't let the components overheat!

    popped

Then I'd be in line for the purple laser god. I've spent more time looking at PHR LED's than actual lasers. Then when I'm feeling depressed I shove so much current into them that they die altogether, and then laugh maniacally as I observe the blown golden wire to the diode under a microscope...

    The Copper Behemoth!

Gonna have to +1 Jayrob and you for the dedication. That beast looks like it could be used as a self defense baton :D

3w laser video gone viral CNN News

I read a few comments before actually watching the video and thought that they were making some piece to encourage legislation or restrictions on lasers... I then watched the video and they were just complimenting him on a job well done. Styro does also push for laser safety in every video, and...

    638nm laser divergence issue

You also have to remember that the 650nm diode is drifting to longer wavelenghts as well as it heats up. Here's an output chart for the 300mW multi-mode Mits diode. According to the tests Cypa ran on these two, they mark them as 300mW diodes because that's when it's 638nm. I'm assuming the 500mW...

NEW! The Blitz-Linear: Very Low Drop Out, 1A Adjustable Linear Driver

So these are capable of powering the 635nm mits diodes because they are case isolated, but will they work on a single cell like the 650/660nm LPCs will? From what I've read here even if you're using an ultrafire Li-Ion that maxes out at 4.1V if I run it at 1A the voltage drop will still run it...

    300mW+ 650nm C6 build! (Pic heavy)

Well since genius here won't spill his guts I'm just going to take a few shots in the dark: 1. Something to do with the C6 being a nifty host that's isolated and not case negative/positive. 2. Something to do with the amount of space available inside the C6. 3. Something to do with heat...

Testing of the New 650nm/660nm 5W Diode.!

Many thanks to the pioneers on LFP! I think I'll hold my money until they drop like all the other diodes though :P Rep for joo Lazeerer :D

    Photo diode, laser and sunlight

Is it possible to enclose the application in some sort of host to prevent unwanted exposure? You could leave a trap-door sort of hole in it for when it needs to be used, simply lift the door and shine the laser inside. My apologies if this sounds dumb to you but with the information given there...

Cheap Safety Goggles Destructive Test: Uvex S0360X Ultra-spec 2000

10% Reduction? Maybe O-like should order some and sell those. Would still be a step up from their current ones.

    Portable Lab-Style 660nm Project! [Pictures]

Hello fellow laser enthusiasts! I'm working on a build at the moment to set up a LPC-826 that I've bought from Clif over here and I wanted to share it with you all for constructive critiquing and perhaps even help out the beginners in the forum. Here is the setup I will be using: LPC-826 Diode...
