No, the diode is press-fit into the module, meaning that you are going to need a lot more force than just your fingers. You can use the back section of the aixiz module to press it flush (put the pins of the diode through the hole in the back part of the module and push it together in a vice)...

As far as the original question goes: yes, you may have toasted your diode or it may have been DOA. If you don't set your driver up with a test load (AKA Dummy load), your driver may let too much voltage through to the diode before it can adjust to the diode's needs, killing the diode. I killed...
