    Post your random pics!

Seeing some of you guys building cool lasers in your garage out of big 'ol equipment makes me want to give it a try. Here's what I've got so far, now I just need a lens, maybe a blue filter too? I'm going for 1W 1GHz burning laser. That is why they shape these things like a light bulb, because...

    Collection of Laser Die/Emitter Photos

Looks like a little black hole forming there. I think I see the gamma ray jet coming out of it.

gonna try a 375nm pointer build...

I wonder how many of the people tested got eye damage from UV?

Sanwu pocket 445 nm 800 mW illegal?

According to the document, could you say the laser is designed to burn through materials only a 1W of that color and beam size could? They have a flashlight lens right? You could say it takes 1W to make a good flashlight.

So, what's in those cheap 5mW eBay pens? *pic heavy*

Maybe using a heat gun would have been the best way to get the label off, also an xacto knife to help start the peel up, so you don't get burned by the heat gun. It sucks they make you have to break them just to focus them. I had one all glued together like that.

Another FREE laser, just pay shipping!

Not even internally focusable on the brass? diode housing itself? Anyway it doesn't matter as long as it lights up, and is focused pretty well to infinity. I wonder if it needs a little heatsink for 50mW. I just looked it up if it's the one on laser fanatics, and they do have a 50mw which was...

    Post Your GUN (PICS)

One of my favorites is my tiny crickett .22LR rifle with a little 4x15 scope. It's just so light, fun and accurate, very simple too, but the firing mechanism tends to wear out and jam needing an occasional filing. I'm a fan of long barrel rifles, and high velocity ones at that. I currently have...

I think Cassini had a 1 Megapixel camera. With today's tech it'd be worth another probe to visit the planets with how compact and efficient they could be. You could fit several more instruments, have room for more than one advanced mini probe for more moon explorations, a 50Mp camera... It's...

Another FREE laser, just pay shipping!

I wouldn't mind it for $3 via paypal, that leaves just enough to print a first class shipping label to mail it in a tiny box or padded envelop. Does it focus well to a tiny dot for long range pointing? I need some color in my signature! This laser will light glow in the dark and fluorescent...

    1w 520/2.6w 532/2.8w 520(dual) beam shots

Maybe the fat beam is out of focus. Or it is both bright, and wide from the source. How do you get the beams to stop after 50ft? Mine go to the edge of space :)

    Custom Sanwu Underwater Laser

A 5W green might have enough contrast with still good distance, although I don't know why a blue would be hard to see, the dot should be bright enough, maybe even up to a few hundred feet away. Could you boil stuff with a focused beam? Maybe light a flare or those waterproof matches that can be...

    Space Discussion Thread

I just realized today I was looking at the wrong starts on wikisky.org. As far as I have to zoom in on the non existent anomaly I really doubt I will see anything through my little 4" scope in a light polluted area. It would take a huge scope to see any stars that small. Anyway, it is unlikely...

    Space Discussion Thread

I think the two stars are real, and half of the hype about the picture seemed to be the coloring and the weird smiley face. I thought the stars looked weird, but that could be some image error too. I saw somewhere when doing a little research on those stars that a basic map of the sky shows a...

I agree, lens reflection artifacts. I was just now watching reruns of the eclipse on nasa's channel, and I saw in one video from a telescope when the sun was just a sliver, there was a line of those oval shaped dots in pink and green in one main line, and some other lined up clusters. In the...

Sanwu Pocket laser extended double battery mod

It burns well enough even if the burn power is minimal after a few seconds, so I guess I'll get a bigger one if I really end up needing more power. I mostly use it for pointing anyway

In response to a few posts ago, the black and white pic in this link looks like a cookie monster Why is NASA blocking this sector of space? What are they hiding?

    goggles for eclipse?

For practical purposes I figure the eclipse glasses would provide better protection against a direct unscattered reflection than normal glasses which seem to let so much light pass through. I keep thinking the eclipse glasses have extra reflective surfaces, but I remember they are not as...

New purple laser isn't a dot

My multi mode pocket laser looks like that, but most emitters are not circular, so they will not make a truly round dot correct? And, most cheap lasers we see are not designed to be focusable, so we are used to seeing a tiny dot that is actually not perfectly round when you enhance it's shape by...

    goggles for eclipse?

Couldn't you burn normal laser goggles if you tried? Whoa, that's wierd. Does rep power count appear only after 50 posts? I thought I was getting good points, but it always said 0, and people with negative also say 0, but they too have under 50 posts. Mine just appeared as the actual number.
