    large beam expander?

Keep in mind they are zoom type with more optics inside. Zoom is great but not everywhere.

    large beam expander?

The input aperture is not the same as the input beam. For 5 mm input beam you would need a larger aperture than 5 mm. imho, for 5 mm aperture the 1 mm beam is good. With 17x you would have a ~17mm beam and that would pass through 25 mm exit easily. A 2 mm beam will enter well but at...

    PCX Lens FL Question

You probably wanted to say chromatic aberrations. Still a multi-wavelengths laser needs lenses with minimal chromatic ab.

    PCX Lens FL Question

That's a solid reason that they are used to collimate laser diodes. If the length is not a problem, a short focal length lens with a telescope will make you a wide well-collimated beam.

    PCX Lens FL Question

Don't expect a great spot with a PCX lens.

    Need powerful laser for work

It's feasible though needs a lot of cash, like those laser :gun: killing drones or other flying objects. Also dealing with a laser able to burn things around combustible materials, the OP will need a fire station nearby too.

    Divergence

Take any single mode laser and work on optics to get a desired divergence. Hint: a telescope helps a lot. If you have some other constrains, then you need to spell them out.

    identify a doublet lens?

My guess is that the edge is black painted. Germanium and silicon - due to a high refractive index, IR lenses are simpler, and mostly singlets. Though, who knows what is that without seeing through. :can: OP could tell if a lens transmits light. What is a focal length. Can even try to measure...

    Thoughts on my design

You had 3 months to review your own design by suggestions and simple looking at other experience on other threads. Instead you just keep yourself busy by distracting from real work :fightin: Get serious or you'll be vaporized with 1.8 W :lasergun:

    Thoughts on my design

Sorry, if i'm late. The first post has pictures. To me it looks the lens will be not used or it will have a very short focal length. Then the beam will be huge. As it is a battery operated device, and looks like a laser pointer - will have troubles selling or deal with lawyers when someone...

    Best lens for Collimation ?

Laser Diodes: My experience - many collimating lenses are plane/asphere. Only a small portion of asphere / asphere. We use only a multi lens system (all kind of achromats) for very specific applications. 532 nm laser - this laser has a very different laser beam properties (small initial...

Re: PERMANENT THREAD: Ebay& other internet FINDS of interest- read all the OP please How has an engineer decided to use screws? Looks all possible kinds Probably the enemy will have a tough time to re-engineer  What is a big round cylinder for on right side?

Trying to build an insane 532 nm laser

Laserbuilder, what is your experimental setup right now? (this thread as I see was started half year ago) As I remember a Brewster plate is not coated - it's just a not too thin not too thick glass or fused silica plate orientated at a Brewster angle. Though don't know for lasers with double...

Has anybody messed with the new 2.5W G85 yet?

If the beam is collimated, then the divergence is the minimum, isn't? Anyway, the text in pdf says that it will be "3.6° (perpendicular), 0.5° (parallel)"; not clear how the two (if the same structure as G85) will overlap. ML562G85 has 9 deg x 65 deg
