Homemade 1W 445 nm laser not working right.

You will need a 1.25R 2W resistor. Because 1.25V/1.25R=1A. If you use a too powerful soldering iron you can fry the regulator, here I use a 40W soldering iron and never fried a IC. There`s a chance of your IC already came fried, happened to me, A LM317 with 5A of output, all the resistors...

New red build, custom sinner host.

Nice looking laser! Feels strong and heavy!

Homemade 1W 445 nm laser not working right.

It should work! :yh: Remember that the power dissipated by the resistor will be W=IxV. At 1.25A it will dissipate 6.25W. Because of this I said that isn't too efficient.

Homemade 1W 445 nm laser not working right.

If you know how to use I think isn't too bad only for a simple test, you will use it as a current regulator: The formula will be I=5/R.

Homemade 1W 445 nm laser not working right.

Sorry for your loss! :cryyy: If you think is worth you can test your LD with a real driver (LM317 that is cheap) to see if your LD is really fried! You have a very very small chance of it being below the lasing threshold. Is possible to use a 7805 as a driver, but I think it will not be a...

    hey guys! joe here

Welcome! Firstly, I recommend that you get some goggles, safety first! I think the better way for you start DIY is with red lasers, the ones from DVD burners are great! Also you will learn better how a laser diode and the driver works! When you get comfortable with those, then you can start...

1A LM317 driver with current selection switch

Nice idea! I'll try to get one of those connectors. ------------------ Here is a advance preview of my build: Now I need buy another toggle SPDT switch for on/off and drill the holes to fix the module on the driver box. :thanks: :thanks:

1A LM317 driver with current selection switch

Thanks! I never tried a CAD software, but looking at it, I think the easy way is paper/cardboard! First I draw it on the computer, respecting all the sizes, but ignoring the thickness of the shapes, if I like it, I make a simple cardboard mockup, it has exactly 0,25cm of thickness, the same of...

1A LM317 driver with current selection switch

Eh, I don't was able to find any heatsink suitable for no. 1 in the recycle center, so, I bought a faulty video card that have the exact heatsink for no. 2, is bigger and heavy, black too (to combine with the black laser module :yh:) than the heatsink for no. 1. Here is a preview with...

1A LM317 driver with current selection switch

Here my latest designs, but all will depend of the heatsink I'll get. I like more the no. 1, but I already have the heatsink for no. 2.

1A LM317 driver with current selection switch

I glad it was useful! I'm just cooking the new design of my laser, I'll use a small heatsink with one side flat and one side with the spikes. The part with the spikes will be outside, I'll mount the box directly on the heatsink. That's will help cooling and make the driver have a...

1A LM317 driver with current selection switch

You can grab your here! > Laser Module Housing 33x33x50mm for 5.6mm TO-18 LD with Glass Lens & Fans. You have a option for glass lens coated for 405nm~450nm or 635nm~680nm.

1A LM317 driver with current selection switch

Nice! :yh: Do you know the duty cycle I can have with this module with the 1,4W LD? With this info I can chose the right heatsink for the driver.

1A LM317 driver with current selection switch

Just received the laser module: But since I killed the LD, I must wait for the new arrive, more one month awaiting :cryyy: It came with a 405/445nm three element glass lens, I think the output will be close to 1W since the PL-TB450 is 1,4W plus the loss into the lens.

how to fix 200mw green laser from dinodirect

Hello BigWaveDave. Can you post a picture of your laser? Depending of the host that it uses, we can tell how to disassemble it. That can be a lot of things, for example, loosen battery spring, the switch that broken (very common in chinese lasers), the 808nm pump diode that died (can be due to...

    LG BD-ROM laser diode

Case positive violet LD's are by the way strange, coming from a weird drive like this one is understandable. Did you measured it with a LPM? This will be helpful since I don't have one. Thanks for the information! :yh:

1A LM317 driver with current selection switch

Thanks :yh: I find that none of my heatsinks will fit into the exact size of the laser module, the driver must be larger than it, only having passive cooling with a large heatsink inside will let me with a duty cycle up to 5 minutes (can be more, the 338 have thermal protection, but I don't...

1A LM317 driver with current selection switch

Since I bought a 1,4W laser diode that will take long time to arrive and my heatsink doesn't arrived yet, I was thinking in change drastically the shape of my laser. I like to work with MDF shapes and the final result I think is very good (see my signature photo), that's what I want to do...

    LG BD-ROM laser diode

Can someone help me identify if possible what diode is that? I think if I find how much "X" it have I can estimate a better current for it (for example: 2X, 16X etc..). It comes from a SF-BD411 sled (as shown in my pics), the model number of the drive is useless (Model: BD-ROM), the front part...

My second red laser project (with pics)

Thank you! :yh: Recently I changed the laser diode because it died by a beam reflection, got it lasing again! With it I can pop a black balloon at 4,2 meters away! watch?v=4GOyZ9M_R6s
