Is this the tool for changing lenses?

It depends a bit on the design of the actual laser. Those general two-pronged torque tools are often intended to remove the backplate from watches, and often have a lower limit to which they can be adjusted. Sometimes they cannot be set to a narrow enough working space, and if the inserts in...

Laser glow in the dark clock

Great result i think, also for moving the galvo's so slowly their noise is no longer a problem. Things like alarm function or even NTP time synchronization call all be done in software. The most important part is that you got the hardware to work as intended. Once you get the hardware down...

Which laser color is the brightest at night ?

Don't overthink it too much - both 532 and 510 would be fine. Neither are actually exactly on the maximum sensitivity of scotopic or photopic vision, but they are pretty close. It may look 10 or 20 percent less bright for the power given, but other properties could be more important. The 532...

    Direct driving nubm44 with 1 or 2 18650 ?

A bigger downside is that a laser diode's forward voltage drops with temperature, or the current it pulls off an unregulated supply increases as it gets hotter. The forward voltage of a NUMB44 is attractively close to attempt direct drive from a lithium cell. At least one of two things will...

Osram PL520 3D printed host build

I wouldn't be overly worried about the host actually melting, but if that heatsink gets to 160 degrees celcius on it's surface the temperature of the laser diode inside will be a quite a bit higher than that, and well outside it's safe operating (or even storage) temperature. With metal hosts...

    Eye Candy

Yes, it looks like even the camera took a few direct hits, as well as people in the audience being visually illuminated by the laser show. This is probably not a problem though, as you can see the laser beams sweep through the crowd only for very short moments and are moving at quick angular...

    DTR 20mm Module Heatsinking Capability

How is this module a heatsink though? I'ts a module that connects a laser diode TO a heatsink like a flashlight host, but it only transfers heats, it's not intended to get rid of this heat into the environment by convection or radiation. After it heats up it's just a fairly short piece of 20 mm...

Osram PL520 3D printed host build

I think being able to print your own hosts is nice, but fundamentally limited to pretty low power laser diodes as the printed material always is a plastic with very poor thermal conductivity. Electrical conductivity is a problem too, you need to add in the wire to make it work. Perhaps once 3D...

    Beam combining && Beam Splitting

Really cool to see that setup working just as well in 'reverse' - demonstrating that optical systems are bidirectional even if somewhat complicated :)

My First Real Laser Show "Ignite"

It's a nice projection indeed - i presume most of the artifacts are just from youtube and the camera, and the projection looks much better in person. One thing i'm a bit confused about though: most of the projection looks like it should be seen on a screen, but some of it also looks like it...

    1W 515nm in the mountains

I still love the single mode points though, whist powerful and bright, i never really loved the multimode diodes.

Looking to buy a laser for survival purposes

That would depend indeed, but -any- response is better in such conditions. They may send a rescue team or a police squad to arrest you for lasering that aircraft, but both mean you'll be extracted from your stranded location alive, and the legalities of it all could be sorted out later...

    Review on Laserpointerstore's Pocket LPM

The reference is an issue indeed if you need to know actual power levels. For relative power measurement this is less important, you can still conclude that swapping lens X for lens Y created 5% more output power and things like that, even if the actual figure is off by more than that.

Looking to buy a laser for survival purposes

Something 520 nm direct diode would be the best way to go, considering price, robustness and temperature range of operation. It'd also be very good for pointing out stars and such if you are into that. And yeah, you can get in a hairy situation when doing astronomical observations: you take...

I’m the only one who sees this?

Maybe the just changed servers but mistyped an A record for a bit, randomly sending you to an ip that belongs to some zoo?

Review of the Directly-Injected 505nm Bluish-Green ("Mint Green") Laser Pen

Re: Review of the Directly-Injected 505nm Bluish-Green Laser Pen That's very odd indeed! What happens when you run it long enough to get warm now? You get a further shift to lower wavelength depending on temperature, but this does completely reverse between cycles?

Looking to buy a laser for survival purposes

My logic also would be that getting rescued is worth any fines - and you probably will not even get one in most countries if it was an actual emergency and you had to laser a plane or heli to safe your life. 532 nm would indeed be a bad option since they are sensitive to temperature and shock...

    Anyone try these batteries

I've found in general that several companies make pretty good batteries, but the important factor is finding a reliable vendor so you don't get fakes. One way to spot a fake is simply by weight: check what the datasheet says and weigh what you get, if it's far lighter it's a fake, even if it...

To Press, or not to Press

I'd press it - you need to press it into something eventually to use it, and a 12 mm module is a fairly common form factor. You could even do an adapter from 12 mm to 20 mm later if you have some host that requires that. One other option would be using one of those screw-in modules, but i'm...

Review of the Directly-Injected 505nm Bluish-Green ("Mint Green") Laser Pen

Re: Review of the Directly-Injected 505nm Bluish-Green Laser Pen So it shifted down about 2 nm after 3 hours of operation. I'm not sure about any points in between, but i'd guess that it shifts down most within the first 10-20 minutes or so and then thermal equilibrium is reached. 0.2nm/K is...
