    Pros/Cons of Common wavelengths

WHY AM I JUST NOW LEARNING THIS? THIS REQUIRES EXPERIMENTATION. Trevor

If you're having a one-on-one conversation with another member on the open forum and it's not even remotely related to the OP, I would consider it spam - that belongs in PM. Ironic, given the subject of the OP. ;) Anyhow, glad to know where your priorities are. :p Trevor

Instead of spamming, why not fix your "guide?" Trevor

Also, since everyone knows who one of the primary topics of discussion is, here is his posting history as a graph: Holy post count, Batman! ;) Trevor

    Making quality posts.

It's amazing what line breaks and punctuation can do for a post, my friend. Putting spaces before commas and your post being one big wall of text makes you look like a rambling Chinese spammer, not a contributing member. If you want people to read and appreciate what you say, it needs to not be...

    Making quality posts.

Well said. Another thing that seems to be happening is a few people sitting in a thread replying to each other over and over again; the thread quickly derails and no further useful discussion happens. Post count inflation isn't really productive for the participants or the people who have to...

Have been asked to pertake in Laser trip wire project

Any laser low enough to detect a raccoon will be defeated by things like accumulating snow or tall grass. Falling rain, snow, hail, or really any precipitation will cause trouble. IMO you're barking up the wrong tree using lasers. A grant was awarded for this? Of all the things that didn't...

    GB: PL520 murder fund

650nm can focus small enough to read data on a DVD; why is that not sufficient? Trevor

    Wtb: Lpm 3w+

They may have been good for the money in the past. Over the last 18 months or so, in the absence of competition, the price of the 2.5W USB meter got jacked up from $120 to over $220 (shipping fee excluded). IMO anyone that recently purchased one kind of got shafted. The product they bought was...

    Pros/Cons of Common wavelengths

I added some notes. Without clarification or some additional notes, this "guide" is the blind leading the blind... Trevor

    Pros/Cons of Common wavelengths

There far more in play when you build a DPSS laser than the "quality" of the crystal. Similarly, there's more to a laser driver than the "quality" of the components. ;) If I were a betting man... never. Trevor

    Pros/Cons of Common wavelengths

The "quality" of the crystal is far less important than the thermal stabilization and alignment. You can make cheap, Chinese laser crystals sing and dance if you're patient and knowledgable enough. Trevor

    Pros/Cons of Common wavelengths

I don't want to be an ass and go through and correct everything here, but this "guide" contains a lot of misleading, unscientific, or downright wrong information. Sacrificing exhaustiveness for simplicity is understandable, but people may walk away from this guide sort of understanding what...

    445 pump diodes?

The only thing that comes to mind is ruby, but 405nm would be more useful to pump with. That would lase at 694nm though, so it's hardly worth it unless you're just aiming to pick up an interesting project. Trevor

    Why do you love LPF?

I like lasers but don't really have many anymore. But, LPF is a consistent source of code projects and camaraderie. So I remain. :D Trevor

    Datalogging? On MY Scientech?

You sniffed the data going to the 7-segment display? Nice! Well done. :D Trevor
