What's this orange coming from my 520?

I happen to have a NUBM07E right here. With the same setup of shining it through an expander then filter and focusing it on a white wall a meter away, I get this shaky little dot: It looks like there is a little bit of a red-ish halo around the dot, and it shows up a bit in the picture...

What's this orange coming from my 520?

From a 532, I do see a very faint dot coming from it, but not nearly as bright as that from a 520. I would suspect the goggles, as they are the common factor here, but I don't know of a phenomenon that would both change the color and preserve the collimated beam. Fluorescence would scatter the...

What's this orange coming from my 520?

I have a couple 520nm diodes, a PLP-520-B1 and a NDG7475, and I've noticed that their dots look yellow when viewed through red-tinted low-wavelength-blocking goggles. Now, of course we all know that red and green make yellow, so what is the issue? My eyes are clearly seeing the combination of...

The Golden Company: LPF's Compendium of the Rare Yellows, from Chartreuse to Amber.

The Spartans have always seemed to me to be both overspec and reliable. A yellow laser can be fickle, but I would trust a Spartan to do well. I just bought one myself (review to come) and think it will be a quality piece in my collection for some time to come. I'm impressed by the power of...

Huge sale! New things added! :d

Re: HUGE SALE! Tons of wavelengths! :D Oh my! A yellow spartan at that price? Those are something that I've been wanting for a while but haven't been able to find. I'll take it! Also, do you have measurements of it?

    Fog?

If I need just enough fog to fill a room to take some pictures, I'll often put a few drops of pure vegetable glycerine on a large spoon and heat it with a lighter or candle. Just make sure it doesn't boil and blow gently over it and you will end up with clouds of fog in no time!

    V4 Lightsabre NDG700 Blackbuck M8

Wow, nice build and sweet host! The higher powered 520nm diodes are some of my favorite. I'm looking forward to seeing adjustable current on this. Just one more thing to top off a quality piece of laser.

    Holy @#$%... $100 488nm diode!!

Re: Holy @#$%... $120 488nm diode!! The 480-500nm range has always been my sweet spot for beauty. I hope hope hope these pan out so that I can build something and experience it in person. How many are you ordering, DTR? Is it going to be something that a general person such as myself could...

How do you use your Class 4 Greenies?

I love to take photos of the beams. I have a bunch of lensing and gratings and take pictures in many different conditions. Outdoors, indoors; day, night; with fog, without. My NDG7475 maglite is the usual green I use (along side a NUBM07e for blue).

Accidentally posted in the wrong section guys, reposted in Optics section.

Re: Question for the optics savvy in regard to beam expansion to reduce divergence. From what I understand, the size of a laser's dot at distance L from a source with divergence θ and size at aperture of D would be: D + 2 * L * tan(θ/2) So as D shrinks, yes the dot would get smaller, but the...

Re: Question for the optics savvy in regard to beam expansion to reduce divergence. The question you are asking is very similar to the one I ask here. The basic idea, if I understand what you're asking, is to get the "best" (smallest) dot at a distance by expanding farther than the size of...

    Maths behind optimal beam expansion

I am not so much interested in using this formula to find the optimal setting for my expander, but most want to see the shape of the curve of optimal ratios for a purely academic reason. So, here is what I have worked out so far as far as math: Here, we view a cross section of the beam along...

    Maths behind optimal beam expansion

The beam expander is an X10DR as seen here. The expander itself has an adjustable focus by twisting the exit aperture relative to the base. The laser itself is attached via an adapting focus ring which contains a g2 lens: The effect of this setup is that I have an adjustable focus in and out of...

    Maths behind optimal beam expansion

Now that I think about it, I'm not sure what of the system is adjustable. Right now, I have a raw diode outputting into a G2 lens at an adjustable distance. The output of that is then immediately fed into a beam expander. The adjustable part is the focus going in to the beam expander. My thought...

    Pushed hard 07E 465nm in D mag. Amazing color I haven't seen.

Yes, I switched to responsive and that fixed the issue. Thanks; wasn't your fault.

    Maths behind optimal beam expansion

I am curious about the maths involved in dot size and energy reaching the terminal beam point if a beam expander is involved. The expander I have is a LaserGlow X10DR 10x expander that I have adapted to be a universal fit. It has two adjustment points by twisting either the expander's lens or...

    Pushed hard 07E 465nm in D mag. Amazing color I haven't seen.

Amazing build there! I have one of those diodes, but I'm much more modest with it. It already is an amazingly bright blue; I couldn't imagine it with a longer wavelength still! Also, I had to zoom WAY out to see the pictures, and that made the text unreadable. I'd suggest shrinking their sizes...

    Green 10K Long Distance Pointing

I have a 10x beam expander and some very powerful diodes to use it with. I wonder how far I could get it, given that my 10x can go up to 20x if you truncate the wings. What did you take the pictures with and use to zoom?

Combing two 500w 405nm diodes to increase burning power

If you want to combine only at 500mW each, might I suggest a single 900mW+ BDR-209 diode? I have several and they work great as very nice single mode blu-rays.

    512nm 1000mw

Oh man, if I could get a good 507 I'd pay a fair few wallets worth. Anything near 500nm makes me salivate.
