did you say you tap it and it gets brighter, it could be driver shorting and or a tail switch issue. I have had tons of lasers I had to tap to get to work, replacing the clicky seems to fix it 70% of the time. not saying reaplace the switch first, you should learn to trouble shoot it with a DIMM...
