    ALC60X Argon head temperature

Generally, the lower the temperature you can get, the better. Tube lifetime is directly proportional to temperature.

    Videos of multiline argon

I'm hoping that's a long time from now. And I expect it will be. DPSS Argon wavelengths ARE available, but at huge prices and miniscule powers (especially compared to the 10+ watts a large frame argon can put out). DPSS is taking over for general use, but ion lasers will be king for high power...

The first time you've seen a new wavelength

I can neither confirm nor deny anything at this time.

The first time you've seen a new wavelength

Working at Laserglow means I've seen just about every common and uncommon wavelength. Of course I started out with 650nm red pointers, then when I got my WL Nexus a couple years ago the 532nm color just blew my mind. It was then that I got hooked. I went to school for photonics engineering and...

    I now work at Laserglow

If you're to the west of LG, we live very close to each other.

    I now work at Laserglow

I walked away from the program with an Ontario College Advanced Diploma in Photonics Engineering. I have indeed tried out our 589nm lasers, which it seems are being advertised here. They are very cool. Just what you'd expect. Brighter per mW than 594, and more of a golden yellow color.

    My Newest HeNe Toy

I couldn't agree more. A big old gas laser like this looks like what a laser should look like! Big, elaborate glass tubes, glowing electric discharges, huge power resistors and other weird components. DPSS lasers can be so boring to look at; a bunch of rice-grain sized bits of glass epoxied...

NEC GLG-3030 glass argon laser tube, pics.

Re: Nec glg-3030 Very nice little laser head you scored there! What's the output power? Multiline?

    I now work at Laserglow

Thanks for the positive support guys! I really do enjoy what I do. The course I took in college was Niagara College's Photonics Engineering Technology. It's a 3 year program focused on a broad range of photonic systems (Lasers, light sources, fiber optics, optical systems, optoelectronics). I'd...

    I now work at Laserglow

Hey everyone, Some of you might remember me, most of you probably don't. I used to post here frequently up until about a year ago, then I up and vanished. The short story is that I was feeling the heat from school and didn't have much time or money for lasers (gasp!). The good news is all that...

    How We All Started.

Three years ago. I was out of high school, ready to go into college, and I had no idea what to take, since I was declined admission into my original choice (broadcasting, television and film). On a whim, I chose Photonics Engineering, barely even knowing what it was about. Turns out a lot of it...

Awesome build Jay. And it looks like this just made it to the front page of reddit. Expect several thousand page views in the coming hours. Hi reddit!

    Sparkfun Free Day results

I bought a GeoChron Blue GPS logger. Product page is here SparkFun Electronics - GeoChron Blue - Field-hardened GPS Logger with Bluetooth® It has nothing to do with lasers I'm afraid. I'm planning on launching a weather balloon experiment in a couple months and knowing the exact path of the...

    Sparkfun Free Day results

It took me an hour and a half of constantly sitting there and refreshing the page, but I managed to place it 15 minutes before the offer ended.

    Free day at sparkfun

I noticed around the time my order got placed that the website started to speed up. It seems like suddenly more people started getting through. I was able to get to my order history page in only two tries and then after that I got to a product page in the first attempt.

Just keep trying. Refresh, refresh, refresh! Good luck!

    Free day at sparkfun

I got through! Order placed, confirmation e-mail received! Eudaimonium, there is a limit of 1 order per household and per user account. It wouldn't let you place more than one order.

    Free day at sparkfun

Yep. It is now 3 minutes into free day and the website seems to be completely inaccessible. I can't even imagine the incredible server load they must be experiencing. I cleverly filled my shopping cart a week ago, so all I need to do is checkout. As I am typing this I managed to get to my...

    NITROGEN LASER; cool or not?

Here is the rundown on nitrogen lasers. Nitrogen lasers are pulsed, always. That's why the power rating is in Joules and not Watts. How many watts you get out of one of them depends on how fast it fires. Typically you can expect output powers of around 30-40mW from a home-made one. N2 lasers...
